New JB For Governor Ad Highlights Governor Pritzker’s Commitment to Strengthening Food Access, Eliminating Food Deserts
CHICAGO, IL – Today, JB For Governor released a new TV ad called “Go Back,” highlighting how Governor Pritzker is driving state investments to eliminate food deserts and build new grocery stores in communities that need it most.
The 30-second ad features Liz Abunaw, founder of Forty Acres Fresh Market, explaining how Gov. Pritzker’s investments helped her launch a grocery store in central Austin, a Chicago neighborhood that did not previously have one. It is an example of Gov. Pritzker’s commitment to ensuring all families have access to affordable, fresh produce, regardless of their zip code.
The ad will air on Chicago broadcast and cable television markets, as well as on digital platforms.
I’d give it a ‘C’. To run an ad about groceries? Wal-Mart has been America’s number 1 grocery seller since 2002. Wal-Mart sells fresh food. The fact that Wal-Mart doesn’t want a big presence in Chicago says it all. But, Wal-Mart is right outside Chicago in several locations servicing Chicago consumers. If I’m JB: this is not what I’d waste my time on . Just focus in on Darren. It’s all about a majority (in Illinois) not liking Darren.
He shouldn’t say Bailey’s name again before November. Talk about making people’s lives better…which is a hard thing for them to claim, but they lie about it all the time.
There is a Walmart on the West Side- you know what it’s not: a local business- selling actual fresh food. Liz and her grocery have become something the Austin community can brag about. And it never had anything to do with crime- it was and endless cycle of lack of capital and the racism of low expectations. So the commercial is a “B+” and the leadership to make it happen is an “A”.
Commentators are missing the point. These communities had no fresh produce stores to buy groceries unless they took a car or bus. Under JB, that is changing. Give him credit because he is doing something about it. Was it the best ad in the world? No, but a great issue to show he cares and can move the needle.
Capitalism creates immense wealth for those at the tip of the pyramid…while simultaneously causing deprivation for those below…in the end?… it’s gonna be 99 hungry people for every single fat cat.

Going back requires admitting that where we’ve gone wasn’t a mistake…it was a corporate decision.

They aren’t going to highlight the state-funded grocery store in Cairo that shut down are they?

A+! Great work, JB. Jack in the Box also moved out of the city years ago. So whats your point?

C+ for the ad.
No mention of what caused so many other stores to flee the West Side: crime.

Steve, not everyone has a car to drive to the suburbs to visit a Walmart - but awesome elitist take on urban food deserts.

Wal-Mart is the elite of grocery shopping? Right across the street from Chicago in Niles, Skokie, Evergreen Park, and Indiana. Got it.
