Pritzker blasted for not providing evidence in a tweet

JB Pritzker Baselessly Claims Republicans ‘Cheat’ in Elections

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker (D) claimed without evidence on Sunday night that Republicans have to “cheat” in elections.

“Republicans can’t win on their record alone,” he said in an X post. ‘So they cheat.”

Pritzker did not elaborate.

The post has nearly 3,000 comments, mostly attacking Pritzker, a rumored 2028 White House candidate.

No mention was made in the story about whether Mediaite attempted to find out what Pritzker meant.

* So I reached out to Pritzker’s campaign to see what he meant by “cheat”…

The disenfranchisement of voters through the SAVE America Act, Donald Trump saying he needs Georgia officials to “find votes,” and the unprecedented mid decade redistricting process that began in Texas.

Discuss.

A lot to hit JBP on, unsure of this. Especially when the president last week had an evening addressed focused on elections that was full of misinformation.

I mean there was that whole thing in 2021 where they lost an election then engaged in a whole bunch of legal chicanery before resorting to an assault on the Capitol in an attempt to remain in power.

    =So they cheat=

Typical political hyperbole. The GOP will call it election integrity; JB calls it cheating

So Mediaite just memory-holed Trump attempting an autocoup in 2020? And people wonder why folks don’t trust the media.

Personally feeling pretty disenfranchised with JB’s map which he promised he would not sign

  6. - low level - Monday, Jul 20, 26 @ 1:48 pm:

Right. I love how the Governor of Illinois is held to a higher standard than the President when it comes to providing evidence of “cheating”. Its the usual MAGA do as I say not as I do phenomenon.

===The GOP will call it election integrity===

“I just want to find 11,780 votes”

    What do you call that?

As much as I prefer the 10 year census cycle- correct me if I am incorrect but was it not Hakeem Jefferies in NYS who started this process when he got the legislature to disavow the NY redistricting commission which was then overturned the the NY Court of Appeals?

  9. - ZC - Monday, Jul 20, 26 @ 2:03 pm:

The thing about the SAVE Act, for all these alleged claims of swollen voter rolls, the law doesn’t require anyone -already on- the rolls to have to re-register, to weed out all these fictional illegal voters. If the bill did that, the GOP would never back it. Disproportionately energized voters (Democrats this cycle) would be the ones to jump through all the new hoops, and the GOP would probably be annihilated in key races.

You look at polling, it’s pretty striking; while it’s a matter of statistical probability, Dems do way better than Repubs among voters under 40, and especially among voters under 30, who have swung back hard against Trump and the GOP since 2024. Under-thirties (among other groups) are disproportionately not registered, and they among others would feel this law’s new hurdles. The SAVE Act does other bad stuff. But it’s clearly a voter suppression effort targeted to keep out newer, 100% legal (but disproportionately anti-Trump) Americans.

  10. - Thomas Paine - Monday, Jul 20, 26 @ 2:13 pm:

Changing the rules in the middle of the game is cheating.

Elon Musk has also been referred for prosecution for paying people to vote.

Offering people the chance to win $1 million if they register to vote is definitely cheating.

  11. - Cool Papa Bell - Monday, Jul 20, 26 @ 2:18 pm:

JB should be better. Should have an example or explain himself.

But when the White House and the President regularly never get to the truth, carry on in a fantasy land and yes - lie. And a massive chunk of the republic, ignores it or covers for them/him.

Then this is where and who we are.

If there is an outlet covering every single lie told by the President and they have a problem, then lets hear it from them. Otherwise this is just where we are today and it’s depressing and dangerous.

  12. - Original Rambler - Monday, Jul 20, 26 @ 2:19 pm:

All good comments here and don’t forget Leslie McCrae Dowless in NC.

  13. - Pundent - Monday, Jul 20, 26 @ 2:29 pm:

I don’t have a problem with Pritzker’s statement but I think he could have used a more descriptive term to capture what the President and his enablers are truly up to. In my book that’s even worse than cheating.

  14. - Jack in Chatham - Monday, Jul 20, 26 @ 2:36 pm:

Texas is growing quickly and is expected to gain 4 Congressional seats in 2030. If anyone is going to do an early change of district lines it could be Texas. Not a fan of candidate Trump’s comment that “if you vote for me it will be the last vote you have to cast”. What in the h e double toothpicks is that supposed to mean? Gulp.

  15. - Anyone Remember - Monday, Jul 20, 26 @ 3:11 pm:

“… but was it not Hakeem Jefferies in NYS who started this process … ?”

Tom DeLay, Texas, 2003, was first.

  16. - btowntruth from forgottonia - Monday, Jul 20, 26 @ 3:50 pm:

GOP has been screaming for years that the Democrats cheat in elections.
He is just mirroring their comments back at them.

  17. - Annon'in - Monday, Jul 20, 26 @ 4:29 pm:

TACO keeps asking for more rules, remaps, so maybe this is just fighting fire with fire.

  18. - Siualum - Monday, Jul 20, 26 @ 5:17 pm:

I have no issue with Pritzker’s comment about Republicans cheating. January 20 and the chief Republican’s lies tell me all I need to know.
