Campaign roundup
Thursday, Aug 20, 2026 - Posted by Isabel Miller
* [From Rich: You really have to listen to this new radio ad by GOP Attorney General candidate Bob Fioretti. The quality of his voice is pretty darned awful]…
* Darren Bailey reacts to some Pritzker campaign shenanigans…
* During his 2022 reelection campaign, Pritzker contributed $145 million to his campaign and defeated Bailey by 12.5 percentage points…
As a commenter said earlier today, JB “puts the gas peddle to the floor no matter where he is in the polls.”
* No DNC repeat for Chicago. AP…
Democrats on Thursday narrowed the list of potential host cities for their 2028 presidential convention to Boston, Denver and Philadelphia as their party looks ahead to a wide-open primary to succeed President Donald Trump.
Democratic National Committee Chairman Ken Martin said in a statement the cities put forward “incredibly strong bids,” and he promised the convention would be an “inspiring celebration of our party’s future nominee.” […]
The party didn’t specify why Atlanta and Chicago, which was the site of the 2024 convention, were eliminated. Officials visited all five cities in April and May, considering logistical and fundraising capacity among other factors.
* ‘Dinosaurs against Darren’ are at the fair…

Curious who on JB’s campaign operation drew the short straw and had to parade around in Dino Flintstone drag? Has anyone seen Christian Mitchell today?

Very good insight from the commenter but the notion of a “gas peddle” …

Guessing there is something medically wrong with Bob, that’s not normal.

Smite your opponent with great vengeance, where your other opponents can see.

I am disappointed no Republican has signed up to support H.B. 4333 which would lower the Blood alcohol content for Driving under the influence to .05. Not voting this November. Five Democrats have signed up as sponsors; good for them. Would like to see something in the Senate. Nice day to go to the Fair.

Amateurs who enter the ring with a professional should expect a first round knockout.

65 million dollars is chump change to a billionaire.
- The Carpenter - Thursday, Aug 20, 26 @ 12:48 pm:
Apparently the staff at Franny’s knew nothing about the Fioretti Party tonight until this morning, so that radio ad is pretty par for the course for his campaign.

Pritzker won’t win by 30 points. But he will win. Which is what Del Mar seems to acknowledge.
- JoanP - Thursday, Aug 20, 26 @ 1:47 pm:
The AG is the state’s chief legal officer. Which means that the office does, indeed, represent the Governor. The fact that Fioretti apparently doesn’t know that is disqualifying.

$65 million … 65 million years since the non-avian dinosaurs snuffed it…
Hm.

=Pritzker won’t win by 30 points. But he will win. Which is what Del Mar seems to acknowledge.=
Yep, and winning by 1 vote still means Pritzker will be governor. A “W” is still a “W”.
Interestingly, at least to me, is that Pritzker never talks about the margin of victory. He doesn’t even gloat on election night when the election gets called at 7:01pm after polls close at 7. He takes the win and does the job.

Remember when former Alderman Bob Fioretti in the 2nd Ward was a Democrat. Quite the gathering at Manny’s that night.
- Proud Papa Bear - Thursday, Aug 20, 26 @ 3:28 pm:
I believe Fioretti is a survivor of throat cancer.
- Flyin' Elvis'-Utah Chapter - Thursday, Aug 20, 26 @ 4:34 pm:
Darren Bailey-making Jim Oberweis look electable since 2022.

==Remember when former Alderman Bob Fioretti in the 2nd Ward was a Democrat. Quite the gathering at Manny’s that night.==
Yes, the 2007 2nd Ward Aldermanic election vs Madeline Haithcock. I literally asked the election judges if they had clothespins and when they didn’t held my nose with my left hand as I voted for Bob. I saw right through him bit figured we needed to move on from Madeline. The most uninspiring election I have ever voted in.
I know he had cancer and wish him well. He really ought to rest.
- Dirty Red - Thursday, Aug 20, 26 @ 9:00 pm:
Not a Bailey fan by any stretch of the imagination, but that video response to the trailer is pretty good.

===who on JB’s campaign operation drew the short straw===
JB has enough money to pay people to do that.

-So you got a job in politics and are going to change the world. I’m so happy for you.
-Thanks mom.
-So what did you do today?
-I got dressed in a dinosaur blow-up and paraded around in a circle in 100-degree weather.
-Why?
