Let’s go. Great win. The Sox now have the tiebreaker over the Guardians. It was big to win at least one game.
Parts of the fandom are overreacting to the struggles. Awful hitting with runners in scoring position the last few games, but the Sox have bounced back all season. Hegan Smith, Grant Taylor, and Sean Newcomb could be a multi-inning relief monsters in a playoff series.
Last night was a great win for the Sox. After the last 3 sorry seasons, it’s so much fun to have games that matter late in the year. Fun to look at the schedule and think about a magic number.
Having said that, it’s also extremely nerve-wracking to actually watch the games.
For example, last night they had sloppy defense (2 errors, none of Cleveland’s runs were earned), poor baserunning (one thrown out at third one at home, neither of which should have been running), bad situational hitting (until the 6th inning) with 9 left on base. But the pitching was strong for a change.
And yet they won the darn game. They used to call it winning ugly, but a win’s a win. Life is good. For now.
I’d not attended a post-season game in more than 2 decades. I took my son and grandson to Wrigley, last year, for a playoff game. The atmosphere was absolutely electric on every pitch. We hope to make the journey again. Would be great to see both Illinois clubs make the post-season.

“Still angry …” Both the Cubs and Sox got rid of Stone as a player…2 years later he was the Cy Young winner for Os. As for today’s Sox, going down the stretch Wil needs to play the guys that have a hot hand and rest guys for a couple of days if they are struggling. Grichuk is 7-15 last 5 games get him in, sit RF B Montgomery he is like 0-15 in the same stretch and not even hitting his weight.
=Stone and Harry Caray were a favorite broadcasting odd couple for me. Was fun while it lasted=
And if you want to go farther back, Harry Caray and Jack Buck together with the Cardinals in the 50s and 60s.
It would also be interesting to hear if any snippets of infamous broadcasts involving both Harry and Milo Hamilton actually exist, considering their feud ever since 1954 in St. Louis (IIRC Milo felt Harry had him fired from the Cardinal booth).
I keep telling myself that the expectations for the team were 65-70 wins going into the season. Meaningful baseball in September is going to pay off for years to come. Anything else should be gravy.
With that said, I would love to go to a playoff game or two this year.

==The Sox did not fire Benetti==
Correct, they were just too cheap to pay to retain the best play by play guy. Not sure that makes it better.
The most important “fact” is this: The White Sox stupidly allowed one of the best play by play announcers in recent baseball history to move to another team within their own division.
End of sad story.

Benetti is an A, maybe even A+. But, and I know this is an unpopular opinion, Schriffen is a solid B and they were lucky to find him. I’ve watched a lot of out of town broadcasts and many of the play by play guys are utter snoozefests.
===I know this is an unpopular opinion, Schriffen is a solid B===
It’s an unpopular opinion because the opinion is wrong. lol

Listen to the Kansas City tv team for a week (to take just one example) and if you aren’t begging for JS I’ll take it back! They make Tim McCarver look like Dick Vitale.
I happy for the Sox, but I’m also hoping my Buccos can finish at .500 for the season. And assuming we have baseball in 2027, I hope the Pirates will imitate the 2026 Sox!

White Sox fans should be pinching themselves.
Four games over .500 on September 15, and somehow still holding what appears to be the easiest path toward a title of any team in baseball.
Enjoy the good fortune and the ride, Sox fans.

That 18 pitch AB by Peters might be the most important event of the whole season.

The Sox did not fire Benetti
He left for a multi year deal with the Tigers that gave him the flexibility to do national broadcasts

The Sox couldn’t give Benetti the same deal and same flexibility? As I understand it, they refused, causing him to look elsewhere.

This is SO much for fun than previous season countdowns to 100, 110 and 120 losses.

Stick to the facts
His contract terms with the Tigers were not disclosed, so you are speculating and have no idea if he is making more from Tigers than the White Sox
He does have lucrative national broadcasts
