I suppose one could say “Better safe than sorry,” and it should be acknowledged that the buildings are old and many are decrepit. But, man, how can you trust a system that is almost always so wrong?

This is actually dangerous. It trains people that the alarm is not an emergency.

I tried to opt out of the email notifications and ended up having to block the entire domain. It’s like Hotel California, You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.

And this is one of the better buildings in downtown Springfield. The buildings are simply too old and poorly maintained.

Great post. The system is too active with false alarms. I want to know if there is an actual fire or a shooter. Otherwise, we should never get a text.

Bite me. A system that produces almost nothing but false alarms is not a reliable system.

Also, the impetus for this was reports of a shooter outside the statehouse and there was no information reported until I started asking.

Then there should be a way to override the system for planned maintenance. But sending hundreds of people a false alarm seems easier.

As someone mentioned earlier, you’re undermining confidence in your system so that when something real does happen, it’s ignored or disregarded.
Do better. I mean, the bar is pretty low so it shouldn’t be that tough even for you geniuses.

Exactly. False alarms are not just “over reporting” or “better safe than sorry,” they render the system meaningless because people stop paying attention to it. People, particularly in public buildings, have the right to expect a meaningful alert system.
