MLB playoff open thread
Tuesday, Oct 6, 2026 - Posted by Rich Miller * Not to mention some Lutherans… * Pure joy…
* If I could decide these things, I’d have the White Sox play the Brewers in the World Series. But that’s getting way, way ahead of ourselves, and those dudes can really play ball up there, so careful what you wish for…
We’ll get to my subscriber announcement soon, so stick to the topic, please.

Rays up 2-0 on the Yankees makes my heart happy.
- Sox Fan - Tuesday, Oct 6, 26 @ 8:51 am:
I’ve been loving every second of this entire season and always kept my expectations for further success relatively low. After yesterday I’m starting to think this team can keep winning.

It’s weird how different this feels for me as a Cubs fan compared to ‘05.
I was such a bitter hater about the White Sox then even as some friends got such joy from the WS win. I couldn’t see past my insecure bitterness about how the Cubs ‘03 and ‘04 seasons turned out on top of the lifetimes of misery before that.
Now even ten years on now from 2016 and despite the underachievement of my 2026 Cubs I have nothing but well wishes for this Sox team and their fans.

Let’s go [banned punctuation and language]. I am going to the game tomorrow and am so excited. This team is not afraid of anyone. Their modular, no defined starter, but a bunch of dudes who can shut a team down for 2-3 innings approach works really well in the modern playoffs too.

I’m totally not getting ahead of myself - beating Cleveland is no easy thing - but if we make it to the next round I honestly would prefer playing Tampa Bay. We did better against them during the regular season and though I know this riled up the Rays fans to show their support yesterday, there’d be a strong White Sox contingent of fans at their home games.

Pitching usually wins playoffs. Those Sox relievers are remarkable. A couple should be considered aces.

The Sox are showing what “playing with house money” looks like. They don’t look like they know they should be tense. Unbelievable turnaround. I just hope Reinsdorf doesn’t renege on selling the team now.

It doesn’t look likely for SD, but really w/the Pope’s support the White Sox should play the Padres in the WS. This Cubs fan is all in for the Sox- LFG

The Japanese announcer video is spectacular.
The Brewers have been tough all year and are a great team.

Also, Chris Getz deserves so much credit. You can really see the behind the scenes improvements to player development and game preparation on the hitting and pitching sides with Bannister’s and Fuller’s teams. Mune, Anthony Kay, Tristen Peters, Fedde, Jordan Hicks, Grichuk, half the roster are players the rest of the league did not really value where the Sox saw some talents and benefited from their talent. It has been a master class of zigging where everyone else zags, and coming out ahead.

This is my (our)reward for being a lifelong sox fan who lost faith two years ago and then started watching againn in early June.

I’ve found these playoff games to be high anxiety, more than I remember from more recent playoff seasons. The results are amazing. I hope I survive watching the games…

Everything about this postseason is gravy after the abysmal three years that preceded this glorious run. Looking forward to tomorrow’s bedlam in Bridgeport.
