* Meanwhile… In Indiana…
Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. said he had 14 cups of coffee before his presentation Friday morning. Whether the energy he brought was because of caffeine or his excitement about the Chicago Bears and other economic development news is hard to say.
“We were on a roll without the Bears, but we are definitely on a roll right now,” he said.
McDermott spoke at the Northwest Indiana Business Roundtable’s economic outlook event at Ivy Tech Community College in Valparaiso. […]
McDermott said he is optimistic, given the amount of time the NFL team is spending investigating sites in Indiana.
“I think the Bears are dead serious, but what if they are playing us? What are you supposed to do?”

You almost feel bad for them… NOTTTTT

For the last several years Kevin Warren has been saying that the Bears have to break ground. In the winter months it’s “by spring” and when spring rolls around it’s “by winter.” And now we’re to believe that Hammond is a done deal. And yet no ground breaking. If the Bears have settled on Hammond it seems odd that they’ve lost the urgency to break ground. I say get on with it.
And a bit of advice for Mayor McDermott. If you can’t spot the mark at the table, it’s you. And then it becomes a choice as to whether or not you want to keep playing.
