Weekend way-back blogging
Sunday, Apr 24, 2005 - Posted by Rich Miller Not so far back this time. Havana, Cuba, 1999. Everyone else was following George Ryan on the official guided tour, but the papers I was writing for wanted off the beaten track stuff. Here are a few of the photos I stumbled upon tonight as I was packing up my office, getting ready for the big move. The obligatory old car photo:

Familiar complaint
Sunday, Apr 24, 2005 - Posted by Rich Miller Blogger Decatur Democrat kills his comment section for now. On the advice of some people, who’s opinions I tend to value, I have for the time being taken down comments. I’ve been undertaking something new for me over the last month which has slowly but surely greatly dwindled my time I have to devote to this. I would like the advice from all of you on what my policy on comments should be. I know how you feel, dude. Comments are a pain to monitor, which is why I’m so very lucky to have the sharp-eyed “Comment Posse” (trademark pending) on my side. Good luck with that. Also, I need the posse members to send me their mailing addresses so I can have those fantabulous “Official Comment Posse Member” coffee cups delivered. Or, you can just come over to my apartment next Saturday morning and help me move and I’ll give them to you in person (just kidding).

Blogger advice
Saturday, Apr 23, 2005 - Posted by Rich Miller If you’re a blogger and you tweak your template at all, make sure you keep a separate copy of your template text on your own computer. For reasons known only by the Internet gods, about half my code suddenly disappeared from my Blogger site yesterday. If I didn’t have the code stored on my Mac, I wouldn’t have been able to replace it. “Backup, backup, backup” is always good advice for anyone with a computer. Same goes for anyone with a website.

Breaking news
Saturday, Apr 23, 2005 - Posted by Rich Miller From the Tribune: Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s emergency rule requiring Illinois pharmacists to fill prescriptions for contraceptives, including morning-after pills, remained in effect Friday after a Circuit Court judge blocked a pharmacist’s attempt to prevent it from being implemented.

Guest Blogger - The governor is late again
Saturday, Apr 23, 2005 - Posted by Capitol Fax Blog Advertising Department Isn’t it interesting that the governor had to request an extension again this year, third year in a row, to get his taxes done? Sure they still had to pay an estimate of what they owe, but still. I read he and his family have just been too busy and that his wife and an accountant are supposed to be doing this. The man is becoming a better role model for kids by the day. I’m sorry I can’t be convinced that he and his wife are so busy that they couldn’t find time to meet with their accountant before April 15th to get everything in order. It seems odd that if the President of the United States can get his records in order and get his filed, a state governor should be able to do the same. Visualizing one’s schedule against the other and my bet is that the Prez is just a tad more occupied. This just bothers me. I’m sure the majority of Illinois residents found the time to get their taxes done, even if they worked overtime, or jogged every day, and I’m thinking there were some who had busier schedules than Rod.
