So, just to placate these silly folks and keep the comments flowing smoothly, please don’t be racist in comments, even though nobody has been and undoubtedly wouldn’t be. …Adding More… The photo in question is used by Kim’s own law firm.

Rich, these are the same people who couldn’t wait to make fun of the politics of a SLC or even a Blago … A part and parcel of politics IS political humor … you take a photo looking like a deer in the headlights, you get a silly caption, and if anyone has been on this blog longer than 17 seconds would realize EVERYONE gets some ribbing.

Honestly, I didn’t even think there would be a problem. And so far, I was right.
…Adding… I often run these caption thingies without disclaimers and then go back and add disclaimers if a problem develops in comments. So, what you have seen might’ve been due to the timing.

If people don’t realize it just yet… The reason this is posted is because this campaign photo of Mr. Kim’s is simply god-awful - like it was taken by a phone in front of a white board. Yet, it is being used in all the profile stories of him (google it, you will see).

Snark is heavily encouraged in these types of things, so jumping the gun and assuming that he’s/we’re only doing this is because he’s Asian is just completely laughable in how ludicrous it is as well as completely out of context with anything that has ever been posted on this site by Rich or any of the commentators (that have not been banned, that is).

Kim was Special Assistant to former Governor Jim Edgar. That was over 10 years ago.
Kim was the Vice President of Government and Public Affairs at Time Warner Cable. Not exactly an intern job.

We’ve made fun of a huge number of photos on this site in the past - including an actual high school photo of Rod Blagojevich. Less phony umbrage, please.

The fact that Kim is trying to attract asian (corporate) clients by showing that he is a successfull kid, is no excuse to use the same photo to try to demean/belittle him in an electoral setting.

47th – please don’t disparage my sincerity. My mother was a nurse who worked for a Korean-American doctor. Very nice lady…I admired her and her family a lot. I know how insulting they found it to be confused with other “Asian” nationalities, particularly in jokes at their expense.
Rich – It’s wasn’t a lack of intelligence or closed-mindedness on my part. I simply assumed the worst of “Pat,” and as someone about whom the worst is often assumed in these threads, I am truly sorry for that. I think the problem is that this is one of the only captions contest that just asks us to comment on their face. All the others were some funny shot of an action or two people together who made for unlikely partners. Having just someone’s photo up and asking people to make comments - even though it’s innocent, it gives the perception of mocking someone for their looks. And as we all know from reading the Cap Fax, perception is half the battle.
And with that said, it’s not my website. If I don’t like, or anyone else doesn’t, we can always just move along.

Politics aside, the aesthetics of the photo are compelling. It certainly prompts a long look.
If you saw this shot, without a name or any context, in some sort of “artistic” media, it would still grab your attention. It’s so severe.
