Afternoon videos

Monday, Sep 20, 2010 - Posted by Rich Miller

* The Illinois Republican Party has a new Interwebtubes video up about Democrats and Rod Blagojevich. Rate it

* A good example of how Gov. Pat Quinn rambles

Keep in mind that Quinn’s office posted that video. He was still droning on when they mercifully cut off the video at the 2:56 mark. Man.

* The Daily Herald has posted its interview of Scott Lee Cohen. Have a look

* And to close things out on an up note, the awesome Jesse White Tumblers

==A good example of how Gov. Pat Quinn rambles…==

I would be impressed by a video of PQ not rambling. LOL

  2. - Rich Miller - Monday, Sep 20, 10 @ 2:39 pm:

PCK, I don’t think such a video exists.

  3. - hizzoner 80 - Monday, Sep 20, 10 @ 2:44 pm:

Nice vid of SLC, and tumblers are still the best campaign tool ever in IL

  4. - Jennifer - Monday, Sep 20, 10 @ 2:58 pm:

Full disclosure: I like Pat Quinn, I think he is a great man. Perhaps not so great a politician, but I would still prefer a good guy over a bad guy that is a good politician any day. That being said…how has the rambling been allowed to continue?! Doesn’t he have anyone close to him coaching him through this? Can he possibly have ever watched video of himself?!

  5. - A.B. - Monday, Sep 20, 10 @ 3:03 pm:

    Republican Video = Garbage.

So many better ways to link Blago with the Democratic party, that thing is worse than watching paint drying. Only hope is that they used an unpaid intern to build it.

  6. - Bluefish - Monday, Sep 20, 10 @ 3:22 pm:

I wonder how this guy would respond to the Quinn speech.

  7. - Commonsense in Illinois - Monday, Sep 20, 10 @ 3:24 pm:

So, Governor Quinn could you repeat the goal of the program, and what do you have against non-breathing people working?

  8. - soccermom - Monday, Sep 20, 10 @ 3:24 pm:

    Jennifer —

Surrounding every elected official is a devoted echo chamber of people telling him he’s the greatest orator since Demosthenes lost his marbles. It’s close to impossible to break through the devoted fans to tell the Emperor that, in addition to being naked, he also needs a set of talking points.

  9. - cassandra - Monday, Sep 20, 10 @ 3:39 pm:

Cohen seems articulate and approachable. I tell ya, if I didn’t know the history….clever that he got in the seniors looking for jobs, they tend to get overlooked in media articles about unemployment, despite the fact that due to loss of assets in the meltdown, many must now find work to avoid poverty. And they vote.

I disagree on the “friends” video. I think it was fine, not extreme, a fair reminder for voters of the Blago years and our Pat’s role in them.

  10. - wordslinger - Monday, Sep 20, 10 @ 3:55 pm:

The Jesse White Tumblers never disappoint. It really is a good show.

  11. - CircularFiringSquad - Monday, Sep 20, 10 @ 4:06 pm:

How about the video of StateWideTom’s guys Sacia and Pritchard playing footsie with Blafgooers in Rockford the summer before Blagoofs arrest? That is special. Should we roll out the links to Two Party System payments….cash from Celini. The defense of Larry Trent aka Celini security chief. It is a little late for Gags Brady, NoTaxBill and StateWideTom to con IL voters that they are reformers.

  12. - Easily Entertained - Monday, Sep 20, 10 @ 4:06 pm:

The Jessie White tumblers have been entertaining for more than 30 years now. Whatever you want to call it, good show or best campaign tool ever, Jessie White deserves a lot of credit for the tumblers’ remarkable longevity. There’s a great human interest story in there, I’ll wager.

==Surrounding every elected official is a devoted echo chamber of people telling him he’s the greatest orator since Demosthenes lost his marbles==

==Can he possibly have ever watched video of himself?! ==

I’m right there with with ya, Jennifer and soccermom. Doesn’t Quinn ever, when he’s sitting in his recliner with a beer after a hard day’s work as governor, happen to accidently see himself on the news or at a press conference and think–”Wow! who IS that guy and what the heck is he talking about”?

  14. - Old Milwaukee - Monday, Sep 20, 10 @ 4:31 pm:

CFS’s commentary becomes less and less relevant and way off point. Does anyone anywhere care about Cellini links to the two party system? Old Milwaukee thinks CFS is going to have a hangover on November 3rd.

  15. - 47th Ward - Monday, Sep 20, 10 @ 4:31 pm:

Rich, do you know if I can get that Rod-MJM-Rezko photo downloaded as my screen saver? I can think of some thought bubbles that are way funnier than the creators of the GOP spot came up with.

Maybe t-shirts too. I mean the jokes just write themselves. Who has the copyright?

  16. - wordslinger - Monday, Sep 20, 10 @ 4:39 pm:

–Does anyone anywhere care about Cellini links to the two party system?–

Among the playas, Cellini has had the longest, most lucrative run. He’s a much bigger story than Blago.

  17. - Wensicia - Monday, Sep 20, 10 @ 5:06 pm:

How about we introduce a new law? Every time someone tries to show a negative political ad, it’s replaced by a video of the Jesse White Tumblers?

  18. - Raising Kane - Monday, Sep 20, 10 @ 5:48 pm:

I agree with Milwaukee, CFS seems to be feeling the heat. His sarcastic banter has given way to desperate thrashing.

  19. - soccermom - Monday, Sep 20, 10 @ 5:52 pm:

    Hey, Dionne Warwick

Are you aware that the Illinois Republicans are using your song in a political ad? Just because it’s web-only doesn’t mean they can violate your intellectual property rights….

  20. - Homer J. Simpson - Monday, Sep 20, 10 @ 6:44 pm:

I will vote Jesse White into any office he wants to hold. He is the only elected official who single-handedly tried to stop Blagojevich from appointing someone to the Senate seat. Not to mention the total awesomeness of the tumblers! (and I don’t often traverse that side of the ticket.)

  21. - VanillaMan - Monday, Sep 20, 10 @ 6:59 pm:

    The GOP video stinks.
    Quinn as orator stinks.
    Cohen stinks.
    God bless Jesse White.

  22. - Newsclown - Monday, Sep 20, 10 @ 7:09 pm:

I think the Quinn piece is what happens when your advance staff can’t keep up and forgets to brief you before you arrive at an event, so you have to wing it for an entire event. He’s lucky he didn’t accidentally christen a ship while on that magnificent stream of consciousness run. I like Pat; he’s a little goofy but mostly genuine. I just wish he had a better team working for him. The guy seems to be carrying his entire staff on his back.

  23. - Honest Abe - Monday, Sep 20, 10 @ 7:35 pm:

I thought that it would be impossible to find a photo of Lisa Madigan making nice with Rod Blagojevich. Otherwise the GOP clip was predictable. Quinn needs to buy an oven timer — when the bell rings, stop.

  24. - Old Guard - Monday, Sep 20, 10 @ 9:36 pm:

The truth about the Chicago Dems. hurts. Time for people to get away from Chicago politics and the Blago/Quinn machine. People in IL. have had enough, and will prove it the polls in November!!

  25. - Obamarama - Monday, Sep 20, 10 @ 11:42 pm:

Man, how old is that picture of The Lisa and G-Rod? During campaign season 2002? High school graduation?

  26. - hisgirlfriday - Tuesday, Sep 21, 10 @ 12:05 am:

Well considering Lisa didn’t endorse Hot Rod in 2006, I’m guessing it would be 2002 or 2003.

LOL at the Madigan campaign co-chair crap coming back to bite him in the butt though. Would serve MJM right if his reward for irresponsibly and incompetently shirking his duties as Illinois Democratic Party chairman and House Speaker by publicly making nice with Rod (no matter the personal enmity between the men) just to not make waves because he thought it would benefit his 2006 House majority short-term served to screw up his long-term majority there.

  27. - Vote Quimby! - Tuesday, Sep 21, 10 @ 12:20 am:

BTW the website Quinn drones on about in this “electronic democracy” is not accepting applications from either the unemployed or those who may hire them. But, let’s not let that stop us from playing it up…

  28. - Little Egypt - Tuesday, Sep 21, 10 @ 12:36 am:

Rich, you still know how to leave THE BEST

  29. - Little Egypt - Tuesday, Sep 21, 10 @ 12:37 am:

    Sorry, posted too soon.

Rich, you still know how to leave THE BEST for the last - The Jesse White Tumblers. Put them all in office. I’ll bet they are all smarter than what we now call a legislature.
