Morning Videos: Hare stumbles, IEA uses Abe, Labor backs Quinn, Whitney talks issues

Watch if you dare… “Bobby Schilling refuses to let Medicare negotiate volume discounts on prescriptions”? I understood what Hare was saying, but my eyes still glazed over. Seriously, that’s all he’s got? * The Illinois Education Association uses Abe Lincoln to bash Bill Brady. Kinda funny, but a prime example of how the Interwebtubes has spawned a whole lot of amateurish campaign videos… * The Pat Quinn campaign has updated its labor union video to include the factoid that Jason Plummer’s family company is the “number 2 non-union homebuilder in the state of Illinois.” Brady’s company is the largest, according to the video. Watch it… * Green Party gubernatorial nominee Rich Whitney has posted his 5-minute ABC7 video. The station asks that the candidates stand or sit in front of a plain background and speak to the camera about issues. Here it is… * Other videos…

Yes, but think about it this way. They are DIRT cheap to make, and if they do happen to go viral, then it’s being seen by more people than any paid ad.
It’s like betting at a casino where I only pay a penny but I might win 10 million. I can get a LOT of chances for not much money. Seems a very reasonable thing to do, and a great way to get young people involved.

The education Ad is appalling. Using the Lincoln image an legacy in a cheap self centered promotion by Illinois teachers is an affront to taxpayers funding the massive tax dollars invested in failing Illinois schools.

Wow. That Rich Whitney video is a snoozer. It’s like watching a PBS show on the movement of glaciers. He has some smart ideas, but boy is he tough to listen to for five minutes. It’s funny - he had a real opportunity to stand out against a plain background, and he chose a drab, olive outfit. The background stands out more than he does.

And cutting transportation funding by 42% this year? I wonder what the union employees say about Pat Quinn signing the so called pension reform act?

I think what most offends me about that education ad is Lincoln calling Brady a “scalawag.”
Wasn’t “scalawag” a pejorative applied by SOUTHERNERS against other Southerners who supported/profited from the Republican Party/North in Reconstruction? At least that’s what I learned thanks to my history teachers back in the day.
So it really makes so sense at all why a Northerner/Republican president like Lincoln, had he survived long enough to see Reconstruction, would call another Northerner/Republican a scalawag.
Maybe if we funded schools more the Illinois Education Association could produce Lincoln ads that at least halfway made sense from a historical context? Sheesh.

Bobby Schilling and Phil Hare were on back-to-back on Jim Leach’s WMAY morning program this morning. You could not have two more diametrically different candidates. I too get what Congressman Hare was going for, but it’s an epic fail and it’s boring. Mr. Hare’s director did him no justice in his filming, and that picture of Bobby Schilling is actually a decent mug. Former Governor Corzine caught flak for poking fun at current Governor Christie’s race during the New Jersey elections last fall, but in campaigning, a lot is fair game, and Mr. Hare just does not look healthy. And yes, that is a concern. The job of a Congressman is not an easy one. There is a lot of stress both at home and in D.C.; the hours are long; and most MOCs have family to take care of. It’s not unreasonable to question Mr. Hare’s health or weight - and I’m not one to talk about my figure!

I think Copperheads was a term used exclusively during the Civil War for anti-war Northern Democrats. They had been a part of the national Jacksonian, anti-abolition, Democratic coalition that fell apart in the 1860 election.

That IEA ad is super offensive. I don’t care if I am made fun of or if you tell me ‘oh its just supposed to be cute’. It’s offensive. Lincoln must be spinning in his grave.

Also, besides the incredibly offensive use of Abe Lincoln’s image, they accuse Bill Brady of being critical of public employees’ pay RAISES? Like, Bill Brady wants you to not take a RAISE when the state is nearly bankrupt. What a terribly irresponsible thing to expect that people not take pay RAISES when teachers are being laid off. This is what is wrong with unions. They would rather get RAISES for the people who don’t get fired than reasonably negotiate so that everyone can keep their job. It sickens me.

I’ve complained previously about amateur hour stunts that hurt campaigns in other postings. The Dold/tea party “rating” is but one example. Those doing the “rating” are out of touch and talk to themselves and agree with themselves.
This ad is another example of that mentality. The teachers group talk to themselves and agree with themselves. They want pay raises while everyone else gets pay cuts. They are angry and arrogant about it. They want to give back nothing in hard times. And they ridicule anyone invading their turf with an Abraham Lincoln message spoof that was unfunny and stupid.
The amateurs need to learn that they only help the opponents of the candidates they are trying to help with these stunts. The more that ad plays, the more it benefits Brady.

Brady #1 homebuilder? Doubt it. Didn’t even know Plummer built homes. Interesting competition between the Brady/Plummer clans, then.
Uhh, just can’t get that awful IEA spot out of my head. Ruins any credible information they were trying to throw out there.

If you are over 60, Hare is your sugar daddy who promises things he can’t deliver with money no one has, except the Chinese.
Not only is he #406 ranked in Congressional effectiveness, he is downright clueless as to what is happening in his district.
That is, if you are under 60 years of age.

Like I commented elsewhere, the Republican Party was a third-party when Lincoln ran; and the IEA, which refused to even consider Rich Whitney during their endorsement process, would have probably said that Lincoln wasn’t polling at 10% and therefore was not a viable candidate.
