They really do think highly of themselves

Friday, Sep 26, 2014

* Gov. Pat Quinn

“I always do the right thing, no matter what”

* Bruce Rauner

“I’ve been successful at everything I’ve ever done.”

…Adding… As a reader points out, neither can hold a candle to Billy Madison

    Especially the bust outs. Boy, was I good at those.

  2. - Modest proposal - Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 11:55 am:

    “I have never said anything I later regretted… ” -said by me

  3. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 11:55 am:

    @FakeQuinn - I am the most modest person I know too! #BravoOnBravada

    @FakeBruceRauner - The only thing I didn’t master was creating Earth in less than 7 days. My bad. #SurgeonsHaveRsunerComplexes

    “The Governor does the right thing all the time.” - Quinn, 2006

  5. - Ducky LaMoore - Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 11:57 am:

    Yeah, politicians are megalomaniacs. Some worse than others.

  6. - Ghost - Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 12:01 pm:

    Not a lot of people in high positions say oops….

    Just once I would like to hear somone respond to a reporters question with “oops”!

  7. - Bemused - Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 12:04 pm:

    If those two quotes don’t make your soda come out your nose, not much will.

  8. - Jake From Elwood - Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 12:06 pm:

    “I always do the right thing, no matter what” Except for governing…

    “I’ve been successful at everything I’ve ever done.” Except for maybe corporate ethics…

    Hubris meet Braggadocio…

  9. - William j Kelly - Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 12:11 pm:

    Paper, rock, sizers. Trying to do right always beats tying to be successful. because doing right leads to success were as trying to be successful doesn’t always lead to being right.

  10. - JS Mill - Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 12:12 pm:

    Dumb..meet…Dumber.

  11. - Formerly Known As... - Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 12:17 pm:

    == “I always do the right thing, no matter what” ==

    Like the time I suspended the ILGA’s pay to score campaign points.

    == “I’ve been successful at everything I’ve ever done.” ==

    Just ask Mr. Saacks.

  12. - zatoichi - Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 12:23 pm:

    My father said when someone starts using ‘absolute’ words (always, everything, must, cannot, never, made me, only, etc.) that is when the BS is getting thick. Nobody bats 1.000 every day and even Michael Jordan misses easy layups.

  13. - Newsclown - Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 12:29 pm:

    “…and I suppose next you’ll tell me you were born in a small log cabin in the wilderness?”

    “Oh, no, not at all. I was born in a manger.”

  14. - Juice - Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 12:45 pm:

    I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

  15. - wordslinger - Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 12:47 pm:

    Not only that, but we’re the most humble guys you’ll ever meet!

    Kind of goes with the territory, I think. Not too many shrinking violets get the Big Chair.

  16. - Old Shepherd - Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 1:25 pm:

    Rich - “It’s Hard To Be Humble” by Mac Davis would be a great song to close out the week!

  17. - Boone's is Back - Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 1:51 pm:

    And this will be Bruce on Nov. 5th if things keep going the way they are…

  18. - Soccertease - Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 2:15 pm:

    Just remember PQ and Bruce that the only person that was perfect in every way got hung on a cross.

  19. - A guy... - Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 2:47 pm:

    You’ve got to get the whole quote in context for it to make complete sense:

    “I always do the right thing, no matter what. Just ask me if you need confirmation”
