Perhaps a bit on the “yellow” side

Thursday, Mar 12, 2015 - Posted by Rich Miller

* The Tribune’s headline writer got a little carried away today

Quick! Somebody call a doctor! We’re losing him! Oh, the humanity!!!

The actual story is pretty good, but we’ll have more on the pension arguments in a bit. I just thought you might get a chuckle out of that screen grab.

Should corporations be the only legal constructs that are considered to be people, alive and with free speech rights? Why shouldn’t we extend the same abilities to legislation. Watch School House Rock and tell me bills aren’t alive.

  2. - PublicServant - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 9:19 am:

Once your fighting for your life, as the Trib is, everything looks like a crime scene.

  3. - And I Approved This Message - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 9:20 am:

Two CC’s of black ink and a ream of paper STAT!!

=== Quick! Somebody call a doctor! We’re losing him! Oh, the humanity!!! ===

    Can’t beat this!

  5. - Skeptic - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 9:23 am:

AC: Yeah, but imagine the slippery slope we’d be on, pretty soon it will be ordinances and covenances, and when it gets down to the “Stay Off the Grass” signs, we’re done as a civilization.

  6. - How Ironic - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 9:31 am:

If SB1 goes down, does Rauner count this against his ‘I’ve never lost’ line?

  7. - AnonymousOne - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 9:31 am:

This is the newspaper that so many regard as honest, trustworthy and read daily as their Bible. It’s no wonder too many believe pensioners are living on million dollar pensions having contributed 10 dollars to the system.

Copy desk replaced by robots, flee in UFO

  9. - Earnest - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 9:33 am:

The Question of the Day should be alternate headlines. Elected officials fight for their lives to find an easy way out!

  10. - anonlurker - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 9:38 am:

    DNR

  11. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 9:39 am:

“Will the Bell Toll for Penson Law?”

I hope the Trib got a quote from the next of kin…

  12. - VanillaMan - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 9:39 am:

I don’t recall seeing a similar headline when the Tribune filed bankruptcy.

  13. - Amalia - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 9:44 am:

sounds like a Scott Stantis caption contest result. Now they will just have to resurrect the drawings from the Quinn administration. another entry, Squeezy the Python’s rapper name is Pension Law.

  14. - Wordslinger - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 9:44 am:

“Public Employees to Pension Law: Drop Dead!”

  15. - PolPal56 - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 9:45 am:

Ha! I’ll dance upon Pension Law’s Grave!

  16. - AC - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 9:51 am:

Skeptic: You’ll change your mind when one of those “Keep off the grass” signs saves you from sliding out of control down a slippery slope into a river. Signs wouldn’t exist without speech, and that requires them to be alive. Just think how sign vandals might change their behavior if signs were considered to be alive. Appointing a helicopter to be the head of veteran affairs (http://www3.illinois.gov/PressReleases/ShowPressRelease.cfm?SubjectID=2&RecNum=12951) shows that Rauner is at the forefront of rights for those that are ignored. Someone needs to advocate for the health of legislation too, it’s sad that the pension reform legislation will likely go the way of Squeezy the Pension Python.

  17. - Jocko - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 9:51 am:

I’m glad Rich posted this. I felt like I was in a Fringe episode, waking up in an alternate universe.

  18. - NewWestSuburbanGOP'er - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 9:53 am:

It might be time to revoke the Trib credentials, just like the IPI. Or are they one in the same?

  19. - Anon-Retired - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 9:54 am:

Speaking of Pensions. Have any of you Pension gurus figured out how much Rosenthal’s and Brauer’s pesions have been kicked up with thier new jobs and salaries? How has that item missed any press coverage?

  20. - Quizzical - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 9:54 am:

It’s hoping to hang on until the Cubs win the World Series, or at least finish the regular season over .500.

  22. - A guy - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 10:02 am:

Ironic really….when speaking of entities fighting for their lives.

The article is actually very good. The headline editor had more to choose from. This one’s a boner.

  23. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 10:03 am:

“Pension law faces the music; no pardon possible”

  24. - Sir Reel - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 10:05 am:

    Paging Dr. Kervorkian.

  25. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 10:08 am:

“Derrick Rose and Pension Law; both returns are questionable”

  26. - Rich Miller - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 10:11 am:

    Nice one, Sir Reel. lol

  27. - Huh? - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 10:12 am:

The black ink didn’t work! Type and cross match 5 units of red ink!

  28. - Grandson of Man - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 10:13 am:

“I don’t recall seeing a similar headline when the Tribune filed bankruptcy.”

Lol, me too. The editorial board’s hypocrisy and overblown panic overwhelmed any legitimate reason I had to remain a subscriber.

  29. - Michelle Flaherty - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 10:16 am:

Pray for pension law, says Squeezy.

  30. - Team Sleep - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 10:16 am:

A good graphic designer would have come up with a pension on an ICU drip.

  31. - 47th Ward - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 10:33 am:

    Fixed

  33. - Juvenal - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 11:43 am:

=== If SB1 goes down, does Rauner count this against his ‘I’ve never lost’ line? ===

I believe the governor said he believes that SB 1 is unconstitutional back when it first passed.

  34. - BurritoBob - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 11:48 am:

Trib is a mouthpiece for 1% ers who like Ty and Rauner. Working union man is made to be todays criminal and the pensioner is a thief for demanding to keep the pension that was promised to him.

  35. - Shark Sandwich - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 1:04 pm:

In other pension news, Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead.

  36. - ZC - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 2:45 pm:

The thing I got the biggest chuckle out of today, and what is crying out for a caption contest in my opinion, is Cobra Commander being presented with the key to Springfield …

  37. - Rich Miller - Thursday, Mar 12, 15 @ 4:45 pm:

anonlurker, I just now figured out your comment. Hilarious.

I guess I’m too state centric to realize what DNR meant in that context.
