Tuesday, Apr 7, 2015 - Posted by Rich Miller

* I took a long lunch with two of my favorite people in this business and then forgot to post this one. Oops. What’s going on out there?

…Adding… I’m planning to have a live coverage feed up tonight. So, come on back later if you want.

…Adding More… Oscar really wanted to go vote with me

  1. - Give Me A Break - Tuesday, Apr 7, 15 @ 3:18 pm:

At noon, the Sangamon County Clerk was telling the media he expected about 30% turnout today. Springfield has a mayor’s race and a couple of “hot city council” races going on so that number seemed a bit low considering.

  2. - Cable Line Beer Gardener - Tuesday, Apr 7, 15 @ 3:20 pm:

I was 73rd voter in Bloomingdale Township - DuPage County precinct 63. The judges outnumbered the voters.

  3. - Anon - Tuesday, Apr 7, 15 @ 3:25 pm:

Harvey mayor Kellogg is trying to hang on to power in Harvey. He sent a couple of school buses to Chicago homeless shelters to pick up residents, then dispatched them to hand out literature at polling places today.

  4. - btowntruth - Tuesday, Apr 7, 15 @ 3:28 pm:

I just voted in city council and school board races races in Beardstown at about 2 this afternoon.

Asked the election judges how turnout was.
“Very low” and “trying to stay awake” were the responses. I got

  5. - downstate commissioner - Tuesday, Apr 7, 15 @ 3:31 pm:

For the first time since I turned 21, I didn’t bother to vote-not proud of it, but there were NO contests on the ballot…

  6. - Downtstate Dem - Tuesday, Apr 7, 15 @ 3:45 pm:

In my precinct in Fayette County there were 6 voters as of noon. No contested races will make for 5-10% turnout (maybe) in this area.

  7. - MrJM - Tuesday, Apr 7, 15 @ 3:55 pm:

There was no one at the polling place other than the judges, MrsJM and myself.

And I cast a single vote for a single person in a single race.

    DEMOCRACY FTW!

  8. - Anonymiss - Tuesday, Apr 7, 15 @ 4:04 pm:

    Via @Aldertrack:

Board of elections conf call now: Electronic poll data unofficially indicates we are at 24-25% turnout … We are reluctant to predict anything b/c of the heavy early voting combined with the impact of Spring Break.

  9. - Robert the Bruce - Tuesday, Apr 7, 15 @ 4:10 pm:

I was only person at my polling place in Chicago’s North Side at 6:45 AM. Judges were having trouble using the new electronic system of looking up voter name, with one judge asking for my name 3 times while the other judge yelled at the 1st judge “Let’s just get the books out and go with the old system!”

  10. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Apr 7, 15 @ 4:14 pm:

I was voter number 121 at about 4 o’clock. 60 more had early voted.

  11. - Not it - Tuesday, Apr 7, 15 @ 4:27 pm:

I wish everyone got excited to vote as Oscar. I know I do.

  12. - State Sen. Clay Davis - Tuesday, Apr 7, 15 @ 4:41 pm:

150 at 4:30 in Ward 47. Is full precinct early voting number public? We receive list of late absentee and grace period voting, but I cant tel if full absentee is visible to judges

  13. - midway gardens - Tuesday, Apr 7, 15 @ 4:48 pm:

    Voter 70 2nd Ward at @2 pm.

  14. - Belle - Tuesday, Apr 7, 15 @ 4:48 pm:

It’s great to see Oscar on voting day!
I was #42 at 10:30 at my precinct in the 2nd Ward. There are 2 other precincts that vote there and the other people were mostly judges.

Via FB, 2 people complained of issues at 2 different locations in the 1st Ward.

    Lack of interest is concerning.

  15. - Honeybear - Tuesday, Apr 7, 15 @ 4:49 pm:

At 8:00am in my Metro East village polling place, I had five people in front of me! There’s a hot school board race here. There were actually more yard signs for this race than in Nov. District 7 politics are a blood sport.

  16. - HL - Tuesday, Apr 7, 15 @ 5:01 pm:

Too many elections, way too many meaningless offices. Voters who stay home are telling us something

  17. - park - Tuesday, Apr 7, 15 @ 5:03 pm:

In Du Page County, the county wide COD trustee race is the only contested issue in many precincts. Turnout won’t make 10% in many places. Where there’s an emotional local issue, Mayor or contested school board, may reach 30%. And its COLD out there.

  18. - Earl Shumaker - Tuesday, Apr 7, 15 @ 5:07 pm:

I was not going to vote today because there are no competitive races(DeKalb County) But I changed my mind when I found out about this advisory question:

    DEKALB COUNTY ADVISORY
    QUESTION
“Do you support removing the corrupting
influence of money on our political
    system by prohibiting politicians from
    taking campaign money from industries
    they regulate; increasing transparency for
    campaign funding; empowers all voters
through a tax rebate voucher to
    contribute to the candidates they support;
    prohibiting representatives and senior
staff from all lobbying activity for five
years once they leave office; and placing
    limits on super PACs?

  19. - Grandson of Man - Tuesday, Apr 7, 15 @ 6:34 pm:

I just took a gander at my polling place, which is a few doors away from my house. I saw more campaign workers than people going to vote.

  20. - DNAinfohead - Tuesday, Apr 7, 15 @ 6:44 pm:

I just saw Rahm chasing rep. Ken dunkin down Michigan ave! It looked serious!

  21. - Btowntruth - Tuesday, Apr 7, 15 @ 6:50 pm:

Has rich miller just become another Rahm sellout?

  22. - Arthur Andersen - Tuesday, Apr 7, 15 @ 7:32 pm:

Voter 1214 in my 3 precinct group on Springfield’s west side at 5:30 pm. Brisk after-work turnout.

  23. - Earl Shumaker - Tuesday, Apr 7, 15 @ 10:01 pm:

At my polling place we had 23 votes out of 400+ registered voters
