ILGOP throws kitchen sink at Ammons

Thursday, Mar 16, 2017 - Posted by Rich Miller

* From the ILGOP

“America is still reeling from a disastrous, eight-year liberal agenda. Illinois can’t afford a Bernie-inspired radical liberal like Carol Ammons.” - Illinois Republican Party spokesman Aaron DeGroot

This past February, The News-Gazette reported State Representative Carol Ammons is considering a run for Illinois’ 13th Congressional District. Even as Democrats across America rejected Bernie Sanders’ radical agenda during the 2016 Presidential Primary, Ammons doubled down, took Bernie’s campaign cash, and pushed liberal policies that would make even Bernie blush.

Carol Ammons and Bernie Sanders are a liberal match made in a workers’ paradise:

BUDGET-BUSTERS

Carol Ammons and her spending habits have pushed Illinois to the brink. Ammons voted for Mike Madigan’s wildly out-of-balance budget, the largest spending plan in state history. The Madigan-Ammons budget was $7 billion out-of-balance - large enough to force a massive $1,000 tax hike on every Illinois family.

Bernie Sanders loves spending money, especially when it’s other people’s money. In Washington, Sanders pushed free college, free healthcare, free everything. Sanders’ policies are so expensive that some estimates say his proposals would add $21 trillion to the national debt over the next decade.

TAX-LOVERS

Carol Ammons hasn’t seen a tax she doesn’t like. In Springfield, Ammons supported extending the 67% Quinn-Madigan tax hike on every Illinois family without offering any reforms. Even worse, Ammons has advocated tax hikes on Illinois businesses and job-creators, putting our state’s economy at risk.

Bernie Sanders is Washington’s biggest tax fan. During his failed bid for president, Bernie proposed $15.3 trillion in tax hikes, “hitting virtually everyone, including the politically all-important middle class.” Even Hillary Clinton’s tax plan wasn’t that extreme.

SOCIALIST-SYMPATHIZERS

Carol Ammons makes no bones about it - she gets her inspiration from left-wing, Communist radicals. In 2014, Ammons said her “all-time hero” was a two-time failed candidate for Vice President on the Communist Party of the United States of America (CPUSA) ticket. Her hero even traveled to failed nations like the Soviet Union and East Germany, praising Vladimir Lenin and supporting his violent massacre of political dissidents.

Bernie Sanders will say it himself - he’s a proud socialist. Sanders has spoken highly of deceased-Communist leader Fidel Castro, praising his authoritarian Cuban government. Bernie Sanders even honeymooned in the Soviet Union and addressed foreign governments sympathetic to Communism.

Whew. That’s a lot of muck to throw to protect Rodney Davis’ behind.

By the way, the “hero” referred to above is Angela Davis.

If I were the Republicans, I’d be a little more careful throwing around Russian comments given the Trump administration’s dilemma(s).

  2. - Chicago Cynic - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 11:26 am:

Seriously guys, not everything deserves a nuclear response.

  3. - wordslinger - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 11:26 am:

Geez, the national leader of the GOP thinks the current Russian dictator is a swell guy. And he’s sweet on Trump.

Who’s the audience for this hystrerical dorm-room screed? The John Birch Society?

  4. - Arsenal - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 11:28 am:

I’m not sure that Ammons would mind being painted as Bernie Sanders’ wingman…

  5. - Truth Squad - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 11:29 am:

Why would ILGOP do this now? Dumb timing.

  6. - The Dude Abides - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 11:31 am:

Wow, now they are comparing Democrats and Liberals to Communists.

  7. - d.p.gumby - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 11:38 am:

does she kick puppies and drown kittens, too?

  8. - Mr. K. - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 11:41 am:

Make the letters big and in random fonts — and it reads like a hostage note from washed-out 60’s radical.

  9. - Demoralized - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 11:44 am:

Wow. A socialist and a communist. It’s hard to take them seriously when they go off the reservation like this.

  10. - Archiesmom - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 11:46 am:

They may find that Bernie and Madigan are not the same shibboleth, to their surprise.

  11. - Norma Desmond - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 11:54 am:

Carol’s problem is that she thinks the whole district is like the People’s Republic of Urbana. Rodney will beat her like a drum, no matter the anti-Trump wave that may or may not be developing.

  12. - Collinsville Kevin - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 12:04 pm:

My only comment regarding the tone of this is “haters gotta hate.”

    News flash

ILGOP finally admits they are againsts working families

  14. - Anon221 - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 12:18 pm:

Someone’s been drinkin’ 1950’s Kool-Aid. Good grief! Sorry, but all the “red baiting” is not going to get me to vote for “Where’s Rodney”.

  15. - Mr. Smith - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 12:19 pm:

    Norma Desmond @ 11:54:

And Davis’ problem is that he believes that he can be completely unaccountable and unresponsive to the residents of the district that don’t have (R) as their political affiliation. Perhaps he will beat whomever runs against him like a drum - but as long as he acts like the invisible man, he’s going to keep hearing about it. Even if his response, like yours appears to be, consists of nothing more than sticking his fingers in his ears and repeating “They aren’t real! They aren’t real!”

    DeGroot’s a tool.

  17. - Anonymous - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 12:27 pm:

I think ILGOP needs to switch to decaf at their office

  18. - Gooner - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 12:37 pm:

In all seriousness, do they have a high school intern writing this stuff?

It is like they told some kid “churn out a rant that sounds like somebody’s drunken uncle, and we will give you $10 for each reference to Madigan and Socialism.”

It is bad writing. It is boring.

The party really needs to invest in a decent writer. It is embarrassing.

  19. - illini - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 12:38 pm:

This seems to be little more than a preemptive strike at a potential ( not yet declared ) candidate. And, yes, they are trying to protect Rodney.

My question is this - other than those on this site and possibly those who get blast emails from ILLGOP - how many voters will ever see this attack on a “maybe” challenger?

  20. - A guy - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 12:49 pm:

That toolbox must have only different weight hammers in it.

  21. - Amalia - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 1:24 pm:

might get some Clinton love since Bernie is anathema to many of us. especially as apparently 21% of Bernie voters lost their way and voted for Trump, aka, those who want to blow up the system voted for the guy ruining things now.

  22. - Arthur Andersen - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 1:35 pm:

I’m struggling a bit to find a fair word here, so I’m going to say that the Ammons Family is somewhat polarizing in greater C-U. Rep.Ammons could invent the cure for cancer and the News-Gazoo might give her 2 graphs just above the classifieds. Her husband’s past indiscretions are similarly seldom omitted from news stories.
Rodney did not help himself by hiding in T’Ville and not having a real town hall meeting.

  23. - MikeMacD - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 2:07 pm:

With no mention of the Bolsheviks I find it difficult to be alarmed by these warnings.

  24. - @MisterJayEm - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 3:10 pm:

No mention of Saul Alinsky or Bill Ayers?

    A missed opportunity, ILGOP…

    – MrJM

  25. - OurMagician - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 3:21 pm:

There is actually some things about Carol and her husband that should be brought to light, none of this is it.

  26. - illini - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 3:56 pm:

@MrJM - I thought the same but didn’t want to give ILLGOP even more ammo.

  27. - kitty - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 4:24 pm:

Expect the Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette and Jim Dey to run with this edict from Mr. DeGroot. Rep. Davis would have gained a measure of respect had he facilitated a town hall meeting. Differences aside, he is smart and has excellent public speaking skills.

  28. - walker - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 4:28 pm:

Money to burn, and a warehouse of kitchen sinks.

  29. - Anonymous - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 4:40 pm:

And you wonder why the IlGOP is the permanent Moon Party.

  30. - James Knell - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 5:50 pm:

    Who is Alexander Kerensky endorsing?

  31. - Johnny Justice - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 7:01 pm:

This shows the GOP has a box of rocks for brains. If Ammons is this bad, keep your mouth shut & hope she wins the primary so you can clean her clock in Nov. This just helps insure she won’t be Rodney’s opponent.
The GOP could learn a thing or do from Sen. Clair McCaskill (D-MO), who helped Todd Akin get the GOP nomination and then cleaned his clock in Nov. He’s the guy who said a women who’s raped can’t get pregnant unless she enjoys it.

  32. - Illinoised - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 7:22 pm:

Ammons is a socialist sympathizer? I wish she would move to my district, she would have my vote. Why did the attack piece end with a positive comment about her?

  33. - wordslinger - Thursday, Mar 16, 17 @ 7:35 pm:

So in Illinois GOPworld a “workers’ paradise” is a bad thing?

Aren’t you guys supposed to pretend you support workers in your words, and just reveal your antipathy and contempt for them in your actions?

That’s how Boss Sugar Daddy does it.
