ILGOP: “Madigan expected to protest ILGOP state fair events”

Thursday, Aug 3, 2017 - Posted by Rich Miller

* From a state Republican Party e-mail to supporters…

The State Fair is coming up in a few short weeks - we’re excited to spend another Governor’s Day with fellow Illinois Republicans celebrating our great state and our efforts to bring back Illinois.

But we wanted to keep you in the loop: Like years past, we expect Mike Madigan and his special interest allies to protest outside of our rally. The Chicago Machine organizes this group to distract from their disastrous Chicago agenda and block our reforms.

We need you to come to the Governor’s Day rally at the State Fair to show the people of Illinois that Madigan’s status quo has put us in a ditch - we need Governor Rauner and Republican lawmakers to continue their fight to turn our state around.

We’re excited to see you there - thanks for stepping up for the ILGOP.

The Illinois Republican Party

Seriously, when was the last time ILGOP had a press release that didn’t mention madigan?

  2. - 47th Ward - Thursday, Aug 3, 17 @ 9:46 pm:

The victim hood is unbecoming and is a poor attempt to flatter themselves. But never waste a good bogeyman, right?

Sad. The Illinois GOP was once a mighty organization. It is amazing how far they’ve fallen.

Seriously, when was the last time ILGOP had a press release that didn’t mention madigan?

More seriously: when Madigan’s not a part of the machine, what is the GOP going to do?

I can’t answer that. And I bet 99% of the GOP can’t answer that.

  4. - My New Handle - Thursday, Aug 3, 17 @ 9:47 pm:

Apparently a little peevish, since Repubs have been denied the opportunity to distract from Rauner’s disastrous tenure as governor at the now-canceled Democrat Day.

  5. - Former Hillrod - Thursday, Aug 3, 17 @ 9:49 pm:

That is a joke, right? Like political satire, correct? I couldn’t possibly be anything else. Could it?

  6. - Former Hillrod - Thursday, Aug 3, 17 @ 9:50 pm:

You know, as in The Onion.

  7. - Retired Educator - Thursday, Aug 3, 17 @ 9:53 pm:

This Boogie Man theme is getting real old. I bet Rauner sees Madigan in his breakfast cereal. It is always someone else’s fault. How about the Governor takes some small amount of blame for all the damage he has done, and will try to do in the future. Are people really buying this stuff?

  8. - downstate commissioner - Thursday, Aug 3, 17 @ 9:55 pm:

So Rauner is going to actually be at the state fair? Doesn’t he know how long it took for the temporary state workers and the vendors to be paid?
The ILGOP had better worry about the mobs inside the fences rather than the Dems outside….

The Chicago Machine organizes this group to highlight our disastrous agenda and failed attempt on reforms.

    fixed it

  11. - Norseman - Thursday, Aug 3, 17 @ 10:25 pm:

Retired Educator beat me to the comparison to the boogie man point. It simply comes down to the fact that when you have nothing positive to say you go negative on your opponent.

  12. - Michelle Flaherty - Thursday, Aug 3, 17 @ 10:37 pm:

These poor victims could really use a powerful advocate. They seem so helpless.

  13. - Anonymous - Thursday, Aug 3, 17 @ 10:39 pm:

Just trying to picture Madigan standing outside Conservation World with a picket sign

  14. - VanillaMan - Thursday, Aug 3, 17 @ 10:39 pm:

The Whigs pulled this exact stunt back in 1851.

  15. - cdog - Thursday, Aug 3, 17 @ 10:51 pm:

I will try to be there. :) Can’t miss that.

The date is August 16. I hope they had that in the email.

  16. - Annonin' - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 6:30 am:

Wonder what the GOPies will be celebratin’?
Oh…Barney’s Furniture Lease, early prison release, IPI clown car unloads at GovJunk office. Yup lots of stuff to be celebratin’

  17. - Rabid - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 6:33 am:

Rauner’s veto gets the GOP excited to celebrate his popularity with the public

  18. - Rogue Roni - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 6:53 am:

Maybe if the GOP treated any protesters like voters and listened to them, as opposed to treating them as Madigans foot soldiers, they wouldn’t have a reason to protest?

  19. - Illinoised - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 7:56 am:

Because this tactic has worked so well thus far.

  20. - Theq - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 8:14 am:

@ anon….. that is the first thing that popped in my head as well. In my version he is wearing one of those Illinois Policy Madigan t- shirts as well

  21. - Give Me A Break - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 8:18 am:

Everyone really should go, if for no other reason than to watch Sangamon County GOP members fall all over themselves showing their love and support for the GOP.

But keep in mind, like what happened last time the Gov’s office switched from GOP to Dem, lots of those same Sangamon County GOP members at Gov’s Day, will be running to local Dems saying “you know I’m really a Democrat and can you help me keep my state job”.

So come on out and watch the Sangamon County Profiles in Courage work the lawn.

  22. - Anno221 - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 8:45 am:

    From http://thefoxandthehedgehog.com/the-fox-and-the-hedgehog/ :
“The fox knows many things , but the hedgehog knows one big thing .”
The Fox & the Hedgehog - Inspiring InnovationThe above quote came from the 7th century BC Greek poet and mercenary Archilochus. The quote is only available as a fragment without context and thus no scholar has been able to definitively determine Archilochus’ true intended interpretation.
The popular, accepted interpretation is that these two animals – the Hedgehog and the Fox – are both great survivors, but for polar opposite reasons. Foxes survive through a bag of cunning tricks that allow them to evade predators. But Hedgehogs survive by just performing one trick (rolling up in a ball), but doing it very, very well. This explanation of the survival techniques of these two animals has been turned into a metaphor for people and our philosophies by many different thinkers.
Wonder who at the rally will be foxes and who will be hedgehogs? (If you remember, there were foxes and (according to Dr. Rauner, who misidentified the critters) hedgehogs living at the Director’s Residence this year on the Fairgrounds.)

If you want people to show up for an event, it’s a good idea to include the time, date and exact location.

Makes the messagin’ much more effective.

Remember the Field mouse is fast but the owl sees at night.

  25. - Anonymous - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 9:20 am:

@Wordslinger: are you asking the ILGOP to do Mike Madigan’s job? Let him tell his people where and when to arrive.

  26. - Anon221 - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 9:22 am:

August 16 is also the drop-dead date for action on SB1 in the GA. I reaaly don’t want to think this, but what happens if quorums are not met? Is that another way SB1 could be killed?

  27. - wordslinger - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 9:25 am:

The email is asking GOP supporters to show up — at a mystery time and date, somewhere on the fairgrounds.

  28. - Skeptic - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 9:35 am:

“at a mystery time and date, somewhere on the fairgrounds.” You forgot to mention the password and the secret handshake.

  29. - Rabid - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 9:59 am:

With 19% confidence of state officials, you could hold it in the directors garage

  30. - Anon221 - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 10:21 am:

Rabid- Rauner will have to move his motorcycles out first. Then again… you may be right on the amount of space actually needed :)

  31. - Progressive labor democrat - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 3:14 pm:

Was hopin’ the dems would ask all those attending the state fair rally to wear the governor’s cowboy costume.
