Uihlein contributes $2 million to Ives

Monday, Feb 5, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Click here for the A-1. Press release…

The Ives for Illinois campaign is pleased to announce it has received a $2 million donation from businessman Dick Uihlein. These funds will support and ensure that Jeanne Ives is able to introduce herself to the GOP primary electorate and present a clear choice for those voters between the crony bailouts and extreme Left social policy agenda of Gov. Rauner’s and the conservative reform policy record and vision of Ives.

Ives has now raised more than $3.5 million in the few short weeks of her insurgent campaign against Gov. Rauner.

“Mr. Uihlein’s commitment to a conservative reform policy revolution is humbling as is the commitment of of every donor and volunteer to our campaign,” said Ives. “People doing what they can with what they have is how we win this race for the people who play by the rules and do their part to make Illinois a great place to live, work and raise a family. A state government aligned with their interests is long overdue in Illinois.”

That nasty, childish, amateurish spot worked for an audience of one.

  2. - Just Visiting - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 8:59 am:

Ives hasn’t raised this money… She has been bought and paid for by Uihlein. Same guy that went all in for Moore in Alabama. Only thing worse than a racist is a racist with money to waste on radical nut-job candidates like Ives.

Money money money and not a decent politician in sight.

  4. - Real - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:04 am:

What you liberals need to understand is that ad works in the GOP primary. Stop crying about every little thing. And I’m a black voter that votes democrat but I don’t support abortion or transgenders using other sex bathrooms or changing birth certificate.

  5. - Rogue Roni - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:08 am:

I agree with Real 100%. Where did you people think the GOP was heading after Trump?

  6. - wordslinger - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:13 am:

Yeah? Back it up, Nostradamus. What will Ives percentage be in the GOP primary due to this “ad that works?”

Her issues could have been raised in a serious manner befitting a serious candidate. She wasted any respect she had earned for clobbering Rauner in troncsylvania with typical low-rent, juvenile, Proft nastiness.

But, obviously, Sugar Daddy Dick goes for that sort of thing, which is all that matters.

  7. - SuburbanRepublican - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:14 am:

No question that Ives is Speaker Madigan’s favorite Republican. He is loving every minute of Ives catering to the most extreme voters in Illinois. I get why Rauner doesn’t want to mention Ives very much, but he would do himself and the ILGOP some good by forcefully condemning the hate filled ad that the Ives camp is airing. Makes me cringe to watch it.

  8. - Perrid - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:14 am:

@ Real and @ Rogue Roni, what’s your point? A fraction of people agree wholeheartedly with racism and transphobia, therefore no one should decry those forms of hatred?

  9. - LoyalVirus - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:14 am:

“Real”? Real sad. Nice of you to recognize that no one supports a party 100% of the time. As a ‘transgender’ I am disappointed that you choose to not ’support’ my common humanity. I can only guess at your reasoning, but that guess involves many myths, scare tactics & outright lies. Guess what? I just want to use the bathroom for the same reason you want to use the bathroom. I’d point out the similarities I am facing - people who would see me as something less than human & therefore not worthy of equal treatment - to the challenges black Americans once faced. But gonna guess again that instead of inspiring empathy you’ll be offended. #startseeinghumanity

  10. - chi - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:15 am:

“Where did you people think the GOP was heading after Trump?”

Assuming this is right, and it probably is…

Ives or any candidate with the same views has zero chance of winning a general election for governor in Illinois in 2018. So what’s the point? For all of Rauner’s faults, he at least understood that to win in Illinois a candidate with hard-right social views has to soft-pedal/avoid/speak out of both sides of their mouth on these issues to attract GOP voters without disgusting everyone else. This ain’t Mississippi.

  11. - wordslinger - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:15 am:

–Where did you people think the GOP was heading after Trump?–

Have you heard Ives mention Trump? Clearly, she thinks he’s radioactive today even in an Illinois GOP primary.

  12. - Roman - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:18 am:

I thought the “Thanks Rauner” ad might have signified that no more Ulhlein cash was coming, so Ives had to throw a bit of a Hail Mary pass to grab earned media attention.

$2 million more in the bank. Now we know that ad was just Jeanne being Jeanne, and Proft being Proft.

  13. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:19 am:

It’s one thing to point out Rauner’s uber-left, costal limousine liberal Democratic agenda that IS the Rauner record in bill signings…

… it’s another to promote a position with such a vile, disgusting ad.

I’ve said for weeks the social agenda framing is how Ives sees the race, she’s said as much, but the issue is Rauner can’t wish away his signatures for taxpayer-funded abortions, “sanctuary state” legislation, criminal justice reform, and throwing in a “She-Caw-Go” schools bailout… Rauner can’t deny these thoughts, unless he wants to defend these signatures.

Rauner has yet to support his signatures, clarify the obvious misrepresentations, or make a case he’s doing right… for the Republican Primary.

Rauner wants the NCAA basketball tournament ending in March; survive and advance.

Then Rauner requires the binary choice…

Ignore the uber-left, costal limousine liberal Democratic social agenda that Diana Rauner required, and vote Rauner…

    … or you support Madigan.

The Uihlein money is designed to keep the far Riggt away from Rauner, not just for March, but April and beyond.

It’s a disgusting way to make a “policy” point… but Rauner has yet to defend his policy… so…

Might have been believable if you’d split that post into two — but by trying to hit every single Ives talking point while claiming to be “a black voter that votes democrat” you got a little greedy.

    – MrJM

==What you liberals need to understand is that ad works in the GOP primary. ==

Well, that’s a pretty damning indictment of those voters, then, but I’m not gonna stop calling out bigotry just because it works in a political party I don’t belong to.

  16. - SAP - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:20 am:

I think SR is onto something. Governor Rauner should take this for the gift that it is and forcefully denounce Ives’ ad, which would appeal to the moderates he will need in the general election.

  17. - Robert the 1st - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:21 am:

MrJM can tell a person’s skin pigmentation through their online posts or how they vote? What an incredibly dumb comment.

  19. - Arsenal - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:23 am:

  20. - wordslinger - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:25 am:

    –What an incredibly dumb comment.–

And you’re the braniac who accepts without question someone online claiming to be a black Democrat defending Ives.

  21. - Demoralized - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:26 am:

==What you liberals need to understand is that ad works in the GOP primary==

Maybe. But it doesn’t help her when this is brought back up during the general election. I don’t think Rep. Ives is aware of what state she lives in. Her views are way outside the mainstream in Illinois.

  22. - Demoralized - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:27 am:

    ==What an incredibly dumb comment.==

    Pot meet kettle.

  23. - Terry Salad - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:31 am:

    So, he likes the ad.

  24. - lake county democrat - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:42 am:

I don’t think the Illinois GOP is the same as, say, the Alabama GOP, but I can see the strategy behind this ad. Rauner won the GOP primary with a split field and though most of the candidates he lost to weren’t social conservatives or even 1%er libertarian-leaning conservatives, are those moderate anti-Rauner voters going to even show up? Meanwhile you have some union folks planning to vote for Ives in hopes of short circuiting Rauner - such strategic crossover voting is usually pretty minimal, but with Rauner…I dunno. So yeah, maybe turn out the red meat: sure you could do that more seriously than that ad, but with not a lot of time left maybe the free media makes up for it. This IS the party that offered Alan Keyes up to be one of the most powerful men on the planet.

  25. - Pot calling kettle - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:43 am:

==MrJM can tell a person’s skin pigmentation through their online posts or how they vote?==

The post (Real @ 9:04) wrote “And I’m a black voter that votes democrat…” So, MrJM can tell a person’s skin pigmentation and how they vote based on the information they provide in their post. Duh.

  26. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:47 am:

    To further my point… the Rauner response to negative ad;

===Governor Rauner is the only candidate in either party who will take on Mike Madigan, cut taxes, and reform our state. Representative Ives has already admitted that she’s not willing to take on Mike Madigan and will keep his 32% tax hike — not surprising given her history of opposing property tax reductions. Looks like JB Pritzker has some competition as Mike Madigan’s favorite candidate.===

Not one word on the ad and it’s legitimacy in a context of policy, no clarification of the “sanctuary state” mythology, no discussion on the school funding victory…

It’s Madigan…. please ignore the policy aspects, but let’s discuss how this presentation of my “policies I won’t defend or explain” in hopes of surviving and advancing…

    Rauner signed HB40

Rauner signed the “TRUST Act”, characterized as a “sanctuary state bill”

Rauner signed what he called a “Chicago schools bailout”… at times

Rauner signed those and other bills… but “because Madigan”… after March… so ignore the policy, condone its presentation

But, that’s why this ad is genius to its warped disgusting method.

  27. - wordslinger - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:47 am:

–This IS the party that offered Alan Keyes up to be one of the most powerful men on the planet.–

How many votes did he get in an Illinois GOP primary?

  28. - Real - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 9:49 am:

-I’m not defending Ives at all. I believe she might be racist but the fact is I don’t support abortion or transgender bathroom laws or changing birth certificates. The ad works in the GOP primary was my point. Liberals are crying over it as if she wants your vote. I highly doubt she wants your vote but many liberals don’t support everyone funding unlimited abortions up to the 9th month.

  29. - frisbee - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 10:03 am:

This is Uline’s hail mary. His ROI with Rauner didn’t add up and Ives will be his new cheerleader for his antiquated views. Her willingness to go to the floor in this GOP brawl makes her and Proft the mouthpieces for political views in America that cannot die soon enough.

    Real,

I think MrJM doesn’t believe you’re a Democrat because Democrat’s generally don’t say things like “votes democrat” or “don’t support everyone funding unlimited abortions up to the 9th month.” It would be votes DemocratIC and even anti-choice Democrats know that “funding unlimited abortions up to the 9th month” is complete nonsense and simply a GOP talking point. So since you used a number of GOP talking points and GOP vocabulary, he suspects you’re not really a Democrat. No clue whether you’re black or not.

  37. - New Commenter - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 11:17 am:

-real funny. All one has to do is look at my post history. I dont know why liberals are so shocked over the ad. I may have used some GOP talking points because the ones I used contain truth which is not common in GOP talking points. Idk why he is not sure if I’m black or not. I have no reason to lie.

  39. - Real - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 11:26 am:

Why doesn’t Ives want votes, Real? Doesn’t she need votes to win the election? Or maybe she doesn’t want to win the election.

This may come as a shock to you, but “shocked” =/= “feeling a sense of responsibility to repudiate hateful views toward fellow human beings”

Yeah, not wanting a transgender to use the same restroom as a girl is really hateful.

  43. - Da Big Bad Wolf - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 12:07 pm:

Ya know, transgenders come in two flavors. So Real, you want the woman that became a man forced to use the woman’s room? That still is forcing the women to share their restroom with a guy

  44. - Real - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 12:17 pm:

    @wolf.

I believe a person should identify with the gender they were born as when using the restroom. However, If one wants to change genders thats there business but at the end of the day you are what you are born as.

  45. - Real - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 12:20 pm:

Are we going to get to the point where someone might now believe he is a white guy trapped in a black persons body and vice versa? If we can swallow a pill and become white or black does that mean a person should now change his birth certificate? That’s the type of arguments that could come about with this type of stuff.

  46. - Da Big Bad Wolf - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 12:30 pm:

Whites and blacks use the same restroom.

Thanks for that decree. You don’t get to make those decisions for other people. I seriously do not get why some of you seem to be so concerned with what someone else does in this regard.

==If we can swallow a pill and become white or black does that mean a person should now change his birth certificate?==

Did you seriously just say that? What a load of . . .

  49. - Real - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 12:55 pm:

Did you seriously just say that? What a load of . . .

You do know that transgenders go though a process of swallowing pills in there transformation??

  50. - TAXRATE62 - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 12:56 pm:

“a state government aligned with their intersets is long overdue”. The question is; what is “their interests”? If Jeannie Ives thinks that Mr. Uilhein represents a majority of Illinois GOP voters, then she is truly a fringe candidate. In the interim however, it is entertaining to see her hammer the Governor.

  51. - Real - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 12:58 pm:

Thanks for that decree. You don’t get to make those decisions for other people. I seriously do not get why some of you seem to be so concerned with what someone else does in this regard.

I don’t care what someone does with there own body. What I dont support is trans using another sex bathroom.

  52. - Demoralized - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 1:00 pm:

Well, since the Governor didn’t sign a bill allowing that then you shouldn’t have a problem.

  54. - LoyalVirus - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 1:06 pm:

@real- did you not read my earlier post or are you choosing to ignore it? The world is passing you by. People have been able to change the gender marker on their birth certificates in numerous states - for decades now in some. The sky has not fallen. What has happened is that people have been able to focus on living their authentic lives and doing all the crazy things that trans people want to do - you know, like use public bathrooms and ensure their identity documents reflect their truths. Using the bathroom that coincides with your gender identity should be one’s own business- but because of the fear-mongering, false information & spate of so-called ‘bathroom’ bills, it isn’t. Yet. Bills like the ones passed in Illinois are literally life saving for some transgender people & harm no one. Catch up, would ya?

  55. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 1:07 pm:

===Well, since the Governor didn’t sign a bill allowing that then you shouldn’t have a problem.===

The real problem of the Ives/Proft attack is right there…

Rauner “can’t” explain that it’s not a “sanctuary state” or a whatever, or clarify things, because…

… explaining it… won’t bring back conservatives, it will only highlight on policy where Rauner may not be with them, which they assume by assuming wrong all these bills.

HB40 is the lone bill, so liberal, even “liberal California couldn’t get it passed or signed”.

The wicked, twisted awful genius of the ad is Rauner can’t refute the record that the disgusting ad wants to warp, becsuse by doing so, it won’t help, it highlights that Rauner is still “too far left” for some

  56. - Arthur Andersen - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 1:12 pm:

Now AA knows where the phrase “The stupid is Real” originated. Can you elaborate on the alleged “pill and become black or white?” Never heard about that one.

  57. - Real - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 1:23 pm:

Well, since the Governor didn’t sign a bill allowing that then you shouldn’t have a problem

He signed a bill allowing trans to change there birth certificate which I don’t support. Also he indirectly supported the bathroom law by signing that bill.

  58. - Demoralized - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 1:35 pm:

    ==which I don’t support==

Good for you. We don’t always get our way with public policy do we? Again, why do you even care what someone does with their own birth certificate? I think we all need to spend a little more time worrying about ourselves instead of insisting on involving ourselves in the intimate details of someone else’s life.

    @LoyalVirus

I already attempted to submit my response to you like 3 times but it’s not being submitted or may be caught in filter.

For the record I am not against you or anyone wanting to be transgender. You can do what you want with your body. What I dont support is the bathroom laws or birth certificate law. And I could care less about the world passing me by. We are talking about the same world that elected Rauner as governor and Trump as president so I’m not sure what that was suppose to mean.

  61. - Demoralized - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 2:00 pm:

    ==birth certificate law==

Why do you care what someone else’s birth certificate says? What business is it of yours?

  62. - Real - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 2:13 pm:

Why do you care what someone else’s birth certificate says? What business is it of yours?

I’m not sure if you are a transgender or not but it is my business. If I or one of my nieces or nephews enter a relationship with someone we should have a right to know if they are born a man or a woman. If a birth certificate can’t show that anymore then this is when it becomes my business.

  63. - Demoralized - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 2:19 pm:

  68. - Demoralized - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 2:36 pm:

  69. - Real - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 2:40 pm:

Yeah, that’s a good way to get the truth. If someone is willing to change there gender on a birth certificate I bet many of them really don’t want you to know what they are.

  70. - Rich Miller - Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 2:43 pm:

=== I bet many of them really don’t want you to know what they are. ===

    Called it.

    – MrJM

  72. - Lynn S. - Tuesday, Feb 6, 18 @ 9:22 am:

I don’t think Rich will allow “Real” back, but for the wondering about the comment “take a pill and change from black to white”, Google ” Black Like Me”, and read the Wikipedia article that comes up.

“Black Like Me” was written by a gentleman in the very late 1950s-early 1960s. He took a medicine that changed his white skin to black for six weeks, then traveled throughout the American South documenting his experiences.

(Spoiler alert: they tended to be pretty negative.)

So, I’m not sure if Real brought this up because he feels this type of change is “deceptive”, or if it’s an objection to people trying to appropriate African-American culture without experiencing the pain that created it.

But don’t take this as support of Real’s comments or Jeanne Ives’ ad. I don’t agree with Real, and the ad is abhorrent.
