Ives supporter Breen says ad should be taken down
Tuesday, Feb 6, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller * SJ-R reporter…
That’s at least two legislative Ives supporters who are saying this. Rep. David McSweeney came forward yesterday. …Adding… I missed this yesterday. Many thanks to a commenter for the link…

Gee, just another liberal, Democratic progressive who can’t see the funny in abortion. Sad.
Seriously, Ives didn’t check in with the grownups who support her before she signed off on this?
She just let the Proft kiddie korps get hopped up on Mountain Dew and have their fun with Sugar Daddy Dick’s money?
That was a mistake.

Don’t forget Tom Morrison. So now it’s McSweeney, Breen, and Morrison who have called for the ad to be taken down. Skillicorn seemed giddy with excitement about the ad running. Where do McDermed, Cabello, and Bivins stand? Will they remain silent?
- Ste_with_a_ven - Tuesday, Feb 6, 18 @ 11:38 am:
Democrats want it down
Republicans want it down
Ives allies want it down
How much bigger of a sign is needed?

The discussion is about policy, but Proft made it about shock and awe.
Burning down any chance to make a move so Rauner’s chances to get voters he’s probably already lost to stay lost come April.
Things are being talked about. It ran its course. It probably is becoming the liability more now, so Proft maxed it out, so stop running the ad.
- Chicago Cynic - Tuesday, Feb 6, 18 @ 11:48 am:
Wow. Hey Jeanne, when Peter Breen says it’s too far out there, maybe you should stop listening to whatever bottom-trolling advice Dan Proft is whispering in your ear.

Notice neither of the male whack jobs said they were withdrawin’ endorsements
- DS - Tuesday, Feb 6, 18 @ 12:01 pm:
What about Morrison? What about skillicorn? McConchie? The other Proft-funded yahoos.

Jeanne. Learn from the master. Don’t back down. Double down..don’t let old has beens drag you into the swamp.

Breen could have given Rauner a run for his money. But he knows he would be crushed in the general election.

I remain unconvinced that Ms. Ives is even in the room when such decisions are made.
All available evidence indicates that the abominable ads aren’t the instrument of a serious campaign for governor. Rather, it appears that the Ives campaign is merely a delivery device for the loathsome message of Proft and Uihlein.
The tail seems to be wagging the dog.

Insulting and hating on minority kids, gay community, women who marched, Immigrants, all in one commercial. Give Jeanne credit though she did leave out the elderly and handicapped.

I think Wordslinger said this yesterday, but it worked for an audience of one, and that is Dick Uihlein.

What conversation are we supposed to be having?

Come on, Uihlein does what he’s told. #horsewhisperer

While I abhor Ives’ ad, I think she saw herself trailing by 40 points, realized that thrashing Rauner at the Tribune endorsement interview couldn’t get her in the end-zone, and decided to throw her version of a Hail Mary pass. I think the pass gets intercepted and she ends up getting blown out, but to me the ad shows - besides the fact that her approach is despicable - that she wants to win and will do and try anything to get there.

“Rather, it appears that the Ives campaign is merely a delivery device for the loathsome message of Proft and UiHlein.”
Yes. This. Precisely. After the presser yesterday a gaggle gathered around Proft as he winked and nodded his way through his denial that he produced the ad. This was obviously a 100% Proft/Uihlein production and so will remain up.

Controversies sell when reactions to them are hysterical. This has taken all the oxygen in the campaign, leaving Rauner gasping, “but Madigan…”
All eyes are on Ives.
A month to go.

“All eyes are on Ives.”
Not in a good way.
- Wensicia - Tuesday, Feb 6, 18 @ 5:08 pm:
Ives won’t pull the ad because she’s in Trump mode, all in. Blatant racism and sexism worked for him.
- Anonymous - Tuesday, Feb 6, 18 @ 5:53 pm:
Aaron Del Mar (Palatine) claimed that the Ives ad drove him to endorse Rauner for reelection (after endorsing him in the 2014 primary).
- Yellow Dog Democrat - Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 6:52 am:
Skillcorn called the ad a “calculated risk.”
I don’t think it was calculated at all.
It was just a gamble, and a bad one, from the start.
