New Pritzker ad features Duckworth, White, Mendoza and Durbin vouching for him
Wednesday, Feb 7, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller * Third party testimonials by better known figures are important for first-time candidates. And lest you think this is being aired now because of the FBI tapes thing, I asked one of Pritzker’s campaign people last week about a vouching ad and was told off the record that something like this was coming soon. Rauner had to go out of state to find anyone to vouch for him. After he gave them money.

Good Ad- a solid B+ After the last couple days this endorsement ad will help.
- RichHatesMe - Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 12:42 pm:
To be honest, the Democratic leaders look like complete sellouts. These were all people who operated with Blago. Basically defending their own corrupt corporate Democratic machine. Their endorsement makes me want to help and vote Biss.
- @misterjayem - Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 12:42 pm:
A good ad targeting the Democratic primary voters who still unengaged and undecided, i.e. the vast majority.
Establishes Pritzker as the default choice — and that’s not a bad thing for JB.

Yeah, I’m sure the FBI tapes had nothing to do with the timing. They’ve had this ad in the can for weeks, chose to drop it today along with the Taxwinkle endorsement. Not a great look when you have to hide in your bunker and recruit other politicians try to protect you from your own words.
- Stand Tall - Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 12:47 pm:
Probably follow the money with the politician, he more than likely gave all big campaign donations.
- don the legend - Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 12:50 pm:
Maybe Rauner can run a similar ad with Munger, Dunkin, Drury, CEOs lined up to come to Illinois.
- Anonymous - Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 12:50 pm:
What about Emil? He mad.
- wordslinger - Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 12:53 pm:
–CEOs lined up to come to Illinois.–
He said there were dozens of those (or hundreds). Should be easy.
- Frankly - Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 12:54 pm:
Doesn’t look so great for all these officials now that the main headlines about their candidate are soft racism and Blago.

-What about Emil. He mad=
Yes, but Jesse White has every right to be mad at Emil for his inference that Jesse was a “safe black”….”one who isn’t going to say anything”. Jesse too classy to take it to Emil publicly.

Good ad, if you have the endorsements, you should use them.
However, in general, the Madigan-led efforts to try to anoint Pritzker as the nominee has been a horrible decision. It looks like they are trying to force someone down our throat a la Hillary Clinton.
Open primaries are good for parties, especially those out of power.

Stand Tall: Your reference to these politicians being bought by JB is outrageous, inflammatory, despicable. They cannot be bought. However, they can be rented. (Not original, I know).

Announcer: Why do so many leaders we trust support JB Pritzker for governor?

==Hardhat-wearing guy==
I hope that’s what he has to put down when he applies for SAG membership.

Probably a good ad that gets back to his strengths, but I’m not sure it changes the conversation.
- Blue dog dem - Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 1:33 pm:
Real change. I wonder what that means.
- Rutro - Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 1:34 pm:
He should stay away from all dem’s (espically low approval rating (Toni)). He’s going to dig a deeper hole w/ the AA community (they’ll remember the O’Bama slight & they’ll remember the suntimes cover today) which only helps Kennedy(?)(Is he still running)).

You mean like Illinois has.
- Other Peoples Blago - Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 1:50 pm:
=These were all people who operated with Blago.=
What does that even mean? I know people who worked for the state executive agencies during Blago/Quinn. - did they “operate with Blago” too?
- Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 1:50 pm:
Solid “B”, textbook “vouch” ad…
The timing taints the impact, but when you don’t know your own Oppo or when it may drop, timing things out to look or appear as something, you lose that control on messaging.
It works on all the levels, it does exactly what it’s suppose to do, luckily it piggy-backs away from yesterday…

Back to the editing room for a few more AfAm faces for Chicago metro, I would think. Good for a statewide audience though.
- Steve - Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 2:00 pm:
When Jan Schakawsky comes out and vouches for JB, I’ll feel warm and fuzzy. But, she’s a Biss person.
- A guy - Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 3:02 pm:
It’s average. Durbin and Mendoza are more camera savvy. The rest appear to be readers. But; it does what it’s designed to do. It isn’t great, but it doesn’t have to be.
- CradRock - Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 5:27 pm:
Right… because establishment politicians are so popular in the current political climate. This matters to insiders (who are already with JB), and not to voters (who, according to the recent polls, may not be so sold).
- Anonymous - Wednesday, Feb 7, 18 @ 9:47 pm:
Reminds me how nice it would have been for Durbin to run for governor after retiring from the Senate. But he’s needed in D.C.
