Question of the day

Friday, Oct 12, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller

* NBC 5

With Election Day rapidly approaching, the campaign for Illinois governor has been contentious, to say the least - with ad after ad saturating the state and each of the candidates firing off countless attacks on their opponents at every turn.

To help cut through the noise, we asked all four candidates 11 of the most important questions to help inform voters on who they are and where they stand on certain issues facing Illinois.

Check out the last two questions to Gov. Rauner

10. What experiences in your life have most shaped your politics?

Rauner did not submit a response.

11. What accomplishment or achievement of yours are you most proud of?

Rauner did not submit a response.

JB Pritzker’s responses are here.

* The Question: Fill in the blanks?

    10. What experiences in your life have most shaped your politics?

“Well, my immigrant grandfather shaped a great deal of my politics. He lived in a double wide, spoke broken English, and we’d chat about the undo burdens of health care for union workers and the high wages protected by an inflated prevailing wage. He’d whittle and I’d hear tale of too many social services and the need to eliminate those unworthy, he was a simple man, salt of the earth, an immigrant, and he talk about violence and large urban areas being sanctuaries, and we’d have tea.

I’m just a kid who spent every moment of my life, either in Illinois, or Wisconsin, with my immigrant grandfather, talking simple things, and my political self grew from that.

Then, meeting Diana, I learned what a real, honest Democrat thinks, like she wanted state universities closed, and she’s a Democrat, so I knew I had a bipartisan political partner. Diana also taught me to look at social services differently, like those she wanted to stay open and others making business decisions. I know, that’s some candor for a Democrat, I’d call it radical, but Diana, who is a Democrat, made me realize my thoughts are very bipartisan, and my immigrant Swedish grandfather, who lived in a double wide trailer was right all along. I’ve been lucky.”

    11. What accomplishment or achievement of yours are you most proud of? Took away the union’s fair share. Destroying IL public-funded universities, destroying social services. Not paying vendors for health care or prison services, and the list goes on and on and on…

    10. The strength of conviction, the indefatigable hubris, and the detachment from empathy that my pro-business, free market, privileged c-suite adult life without consequence and inability to regret have given me.
    11. Thwarting, economically harming, destroying the safety net of millions of Illinoisan “takers” in my quest to remove the only obstacle left to oligarchy, unions

–11. What accomplishment or achievement of yours are you most proud of?

Rauner did not submit a response.–

Geez, no response, from a politician? Combine that with his performance yesterday, and that dude has got a serious case of the blues.

Might want to let the good times roll with Brewskis through the weekend.

    Marrying Diana

  15. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Oct 12, 18 @ 2:33 pm:

    11. What accomplishment or achievement of yours are you most proud of?

“I’d say letting Diana have my social agenda. It’s a hallmark of my 4 years. With her branding, I impodied, not only an administration, but a political apparatus in less then 10 days. Not many governors could do that. I alienated the pro-lifers, conservatives, even moderates, and I’ll tell ya, when times are low, I look at her emails orchestrating the two implosions, and I sit in awe at something that only I could do, and let’s be honest, it was quick, and decisive. I would say, as a white male, when Diana and I imploded both, there was such a sense of “I can’t believe we did it”, a feeling you only get when something so extraordinary happens. I hope it’s my legacy, my greatest accomplishment that I imploded a gubernatorial administration and a political apparatus for branding at the behest of Diana. That’s a legacy and accomplishment I see few others matching.”

  16. - The Dude - Friday, Oct 12, 18 @ 2:35 pm:

Glad to see Rauner is at least smart enough to realize he doesn’t need to put anymore effort to this historic loss co!ing soon.

  21. - 37B - Friday, Oct 12, 18 @ 2:54 pm:

    10. What experiences in your life have most shaped your politics?

As you must know by now, I am a shape shifter and my politics reflect that.

    11. What accomplishment or achievement of yours are you most proud of?

By any rational metric, I should be ashamed of what I have accomplished and achieved.

  22. - @misterjayem - Friday, Oct 12, 18 @ 2:57 pm:

    10. What experiences in your life have most shaped your politics?

“This is actually a true story, I told our kids this story a couple of years ago. I was driving down the road with friends and a bunch of deer jumped out across the road. The last one to jump across the fence and run up the mountain. The last one sort of slipped in the shale and he didn’t make it over the fence. The deer jumped over the fence and was hanging on with its back legs on the back of the fence…”

    11. What accomplishment or achievement of yours are you most proud of?

“The time I met with the Cardinal, looked him in the eye — and lied right to his face. God, it was hilarious.”

    11. What accomplishment or achievement of yours are you most proud of?

Rauner: Decieving some of the people all of the time. 30 percent still approve of me. Wearing my downstate costumesl and droppin my g’s so I better relate to folk. One of my greatest accomplishments is withholding state worker pay and walking away from Afscammy during contract negotiations. We’ve got to remove the mandates to become more competitive. I’m working hard and fightin everyday. Home is worth fightin for.

    11. Stripping pay, benefits, medical care, unions from the lower 98% in this state.

  33. - Real - Friday, Oct 12, 18 @ 4:25 pm:

. What experiences in your life have most shaped your politics?

I didn’t inherit my wealth like JB. I’ve worked an honest days work and made my wealth off public pensions and bankrupting companies. All of the wealthy job creators are endorsing me because they know I will get the tax breaks so they don’t have to pay there fair share. They know I will bust Unions so the job creators don’t have to be checked by any Union to provide fair wages and benefits. I’m workin hard and we need republicans and democrats to help make Illinois like a Kansas or an Indiana.

Must have nodded off from exhaustion before he finished…….
