* More than a grain of truth here…

* The Question: What’s your favorite political ad of the season so far?

  1. - very old soil - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 12:37 pm:

    The one I don’t see.

  2. - Concerned Observer - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 12:38 pm:

The 15 second Pritzker ad, using Rauner’s own words, about how if he’s not effective after four years voters should throw him out.

Not a fan of the ‘rewind’ noise in the middle of it, but otherwise - devastatingly effective AND I don’t have to see JB :)

  3. - SOIL M - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 12:40 pm:

I second what Concerned Observer said.
To me, that’s all Pritzker needs to run.

  4. - Maestro - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 12:41 pm:

I do like Schneider riding on the bike.

  5. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 12:43 pm:

    Easy.

The best ad, hands down, has been the Pritzker ad talking about his mother.

It made JB vulnerable, he looks real and raw, and telling a story and the hurt and pain is there, with resolute and love. You feel Pritzker’s emotions. It’s the best of the cycle.

A distant second is the 15 second Pritzker “Throw me out” Rauner ad, which is an “A”, but isn’t the Pritzker “mom” ad.

  6. - NoGifts - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 12:43 pm:

I like Mendoza’s soccer player add.

  7. - OneMan - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 12:44 pm:

Have to say an MJ Hegar ad I saw in Texas about healthcare (She is the congressional candidate with the doors ad/video).

Not as many ads running in Texas but they all seem to have audio that was recorded via phone call even though the visuals are good.

  8. - Susana Fan - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 12:44 pm:

Susana Mendoza’s “Tough As Nails” Ad is pretty damned good. And all positive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lBR7ocwbs8

  9. - Retired Educator - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 12:52 pm:

The ad where the son of a deceased veteran, speaks about his dad dying at the Quincy Veteran’s Home, was very powerful. Hw lays the blame squarely where it belongs. For me as a veteran, it moved me to tears.

  10. - The Most Anonymous - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 12:56 pm:

I’m a fan of JB’s ads running on black radio in Chicago. They’ve been strong since the primary and haven’t stopped. They’re from the POV of women and moms. Compelling, draw me in, tell a story.

  11. - Buford - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 1:03 pm:

Not an Illinois ad, but this one from Dean Phillips in Minnesota was pretty funny.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iU_8wSvSW4

  12. - Fav Human - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 1:03 pm:

Seems like all I’ve seen is the DCC ad about Roskam in lockstep with Trump.

Give them credit for staying relentlessly on message.

Seems no humorous ads with a bite this season.

  13. - Ducky LaMoore - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 1:04 pm:

Warning, NSFW. The Knock the Vote “PSA” had me rolling. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POiqY4FIfMY

  14. - DuPage Bard - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 1:09 pm:

Check this one out in Georgia dude isn’t playing with his message at all.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TJS7cleb7E

  15. - downstate - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 1:09 pm:

Definitely Steve Webb, state senate candidate in 59. It’s not slick but you know it’s real.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4IzVDA-x6A

  16. - Terry Salad - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 1:12 pm:

I received a polling call last night (Monday). I informed the person I had early voted. They told me that ‘Once you early vote, you are taken off the call lists and shouldn’t receive any more mailers” (We got the call because we voted Saturday, late afternoon). I had not known that! Talk about incentive to vote early!

  17. - Grandson of Man - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 1:12 pm:

The Pritzker ad about his mother. Losing parents at a young age is traumatizing. It didn’t happen to me, but my folks worked in a dangerous neighborhood and when they were late coming home I was scared. No amount of money can ever replace a loved one, especially a young parent.

  18. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 1:22 pm:

I agree with NoGifts–Mendoza’s soccer player ad is the best I’ve seen.

  19. - VanillaMan - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 1:27 pm:

    This one

  20. - Benniefly2 - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 1:30 pm:

The anti Ted Cruz stuff Richard Linklater has been doing in Texas are pretty good.

    https://youtu.be/zAvKZAPhOUU

The Underwood ad about being lied to about healthcare coverage also isn’t bad.

  21. - Tony Kendall - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 1:30 pm:

I’ve been a fan of the Richard Linklater-directed ones for Beto (or against Ted Cruz). The guy in the ads just kills me. TED!

  22. - 47th Ward - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 1:32 pm:

Rauner’s ad calling Jeanne Ives Madigan’s favorite Republican. It says everything you need to know about Rauner and everything you need to know about why our politics is broken. It’s a two-fer.

  23. - Tommydanger - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 1:34 pm:

The hit ad on Ted Cruz featured on the most recent John Oliver broadcast making fun of Cruz’ tag line of Texas Tough. Pretty hilarious

  24. - Tommydanger - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 1:37 pm:

    here’s the link

  25. - Just Observing - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 1:40 pm:

Not that this is the question, but I hardly see any political ads at all. I don’t have Cable and watch all my television through Netflix, Hulu, etc. At most, I might see a Pritzker or Rauner ad on Hulu, and occasionally I’ll see internet ads but nothing I don’t skip through.

  26. - Streator Curmudgeon - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 1:43 pm:

Mendoza’s soccer ad. It looks as if it were directed by Salvador Dali.

  27. - Boone's is Back - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 1:43 pm:

I know it’s not IL,but I have to 2nd Benniefly2. Those anti Ted Cruz ads are just too funny.

    “C’mon Teeeeeeed”

  28. - Grand Avenue - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 1:52 pm:

Whenever I see Juliana Stratton in an ad I’m reminded of what a great pick she was by JB

  29. - Al - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 1:57 pm:

The Democrat governor association adv in the primary called Jeanne Ives too conservative due to her opposition to SB 40. This adv separated the base from the Party Rauner leased and made him a lame duck.

  30. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 2:02 pm:

Anti Londrigan Hat ad. Different kind of ad

  31. - Lucky than Good - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 2:27 pm:

The Rodney Davis oppo ad comparing him to drug side effects was hilarious.

  32. - wordslinger - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 2:44 pm:

The DGA spot for Ives in the primary.

“Republicans, don’t vote for this smiling lady who supports Trump and hits all your hot-button issues — she’s way too conservative.”

Surprisingly clever and effective for a DC crew. Almost did the trick.

    Al

  33. - Smitty Irving - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 2:45 pm:

Betsy calling Rodney a liar over pre-existing conditions (votes for flat-out repeal with no “replace” including budget votes).

  34. - BigLou - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 3:09 pm:

The Arizona Congressional ad where 5 siblings says they would never vote for their brother and they whole heartedly support his opponent. Talk about hurting someone.

  35. - jacketpotato - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 3:23 pm:

MJ Heger “Doors” ad from Texas
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zi6v4CYNSIQ

  36. - Boone's is Back - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 3:30 pm:

    This is my runner up:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4cut-wfW0I

  37. - Arthur Andersen - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 4:44 pm:

    Illinois: Mendoza soccer ad

Out of State: Concur with Boones and Benniefly on the hilarious anti-Ted Cruz ads.

The Londrigan “side effects” is clever, but the kids needed to come out of there.

  38. - Union Thug Gramma - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 4:55 pm:

The one with puppies…I love puppies.

  39. - Illinois Resident - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 5:02 pm:

The one’s where JB Pritzker is advocating for the legalization of cannabis.

  40. - Anon62704 - Tuesday, Oct 16, 18 @ 5:13 pm:

Levi Tilleman’s pepper spray ad is the best, worst ad ever created, and my favorite of the season. https://youtu.be/6UYurrW7GVg?t=45

  41. - Shytown - Wednesday, Oct 17, 18 @ 1:28 pm:

JB and puppies, mendoza and soccer…the least political ones of the bunch this season.
