Rate the new Darwish cable ad

Tuesday, Jan 14, 2020

* We talked yesterday about how Rush Darwish is the first Democrat running in Dan Lipinski’s 3rd Congressional District to send direct mail. I also told you he would air a cable TV ad today. The campaign claims they’re “spending $9K this week in 3 zones and will be upping our spend weekly hereafter.”

[ON CAMERA] I’m Rush Darwish and I approve this message because Americans deserve a choice when it comes to our healthcare.

[VO] Choice is a fundamental American value. The freedom to choose where you live, who you marry, how you make a living.

[VO] I’m the only candidate in this race who believes that we should provide Medicare for all who want it, while also keeping a private insurance market so you have a CHOICE when it comes to your insurance.

[ON CAMERA] If quality, affordable healthcare is important to you, vote for me, Democrat Rush Darwish for Congress.

“I’m Rush Darwish, I don’t want to choose a position, so let’s have both.” Weak.

  2. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Jan 14, 20 @ 1:28 pm:

    It’s a “Gentleman’s C”

It’s forgettable because I have no idea who you are.

    The rest is cookie-cut “meh”

    Thus, a “Gentleman’s C”

  3. - Boone's is Back - Tuesday, Jan 14, 20 @ 1:31 pm:

“I’m the only candidate in this race…” And what race would that be?

I’m with Oswego Willy. Gentelman’s C it is.

Hey Amateurs dude the only thing that would be weak would be our economy if we got rid of private insurance or if nobody could afford health care. Seems like a very reasonable position to me

  5. - Amateurs dude - Tuesday, Jan 14, 20 @ 1:55 pm:

    Agreed, OW.
    Moderate Mike, perhaps…if you aren’t a deep thinker. ;)

===… the only thing that would be weak would be our economy if we got rid of private insurance or if nobody could afford health care. Seems like a very reasonable position to me===

Who is he, what’s he running for, why should I care?

I know a policy thingy, I have no idea who he is, LOL

9 seconds of “Congress” and short hand “IL-03” screams of cookie-cutter ad stuff that was sold as an intro.

    Yikes.

  7. - Commonsense in Illinois - Tuesday, Jan 14, 20 @ 2:01 pm:

Nice to meet you, whomever you are…and whatever you’re running for…

    Gent’s C is kind.

  8. - Moderate Mike - Tuesday, Jan 14, 20 @ 2:08 pm:

Call me not deep if you like but all this craziness has me craving cookie-cutter Congressman

  9. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Jan 14, 20 @ 2:10 pm:

    === has me craving cookie-cutter Congressman===

Then why have an ad that has a candidate say…

    “I’m the only candidate…”

    Friend, you’re not helping, LOL

  10. - Ron Burgundy - Tuesday, Jan 14, 20 @ 2:21 pm:

A+ Citizen Kane of political ads. He’s so for the common person and for choice, and choice is good, or something.

What I really think: C-. Call me crazy, but in a race like this in a crowded media market, if you are running to unseat a known entity like Lipinski you need to tell people you are running against Lipinski and then distinguish yourself from Lipinski. You can get away with this kind of fluff in an open primary as an intro piece.

  11. - Oak Parker - Tuesday, Jan 14, 20 @ 2:30 pm:

Rush Darwish is a wedding videographer, so he has probably been storyboarding this commercial since he first decided he was running.

  12. - A Guy - Tuesday, Jan 14, 20 @ 2:38 pm:

It’s ordinary. Ordinary isn’t ever enough.

  13. - Roman - Tuesday, Jan 14, 20 @ 2:52 pm:

It’s above average. As OW and Boone’s kinda allude to, he’d be better off starting with more of an introductory/bio piece. This would be a good second ad. Maybe he doesn’t have the cash for that kind of roll out.

  14. - Timmy SS - Tuesday, Jan 14, 20 @ 3:18 pm:

== Rush Darwish is a wedding videographer, so he has probably been storyboarding this commercial since he first decided he was running. == and it still stinks. D+ at best imo for someone who does this for a living
