Poll: Biden, Foxx with double-digit leads, 72 percent disapprove of Blagojevich commutation

Thursday, Mar 12, 2020 - Posted by Rich Miller

* WGN

According to a WGN-TV/Emerson College poll, Joe Biden is the front runner in Illinois. By a wide-margin voters support Biden over Bernie Sanders. According to the poll, 56.6% of Illinois voters choose Biden, 36.2% support Sanders. […]

In terms of the Cook County State’s Attorney race, the incumbent Kim Foxx came out on top.

    Kim Foxx 36.3%
    Bill Conway 20.3%
    Donna More 4.8%
    Bob Fioretti 4.3%
    34.2% said they remain undecided

Voters were also asked if they approve or disapprove of Trump’s pardoning of former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

    71.8% of voters disapprove
    28.2% approve.

Maybe the Chicago TV stations will now stop lionizing the disgraced former governor. More results at the link.

…Adding… As somebody pointed out, the undecideds in the state’s attorney race are quite large. Plenty of room for movement, but we’ll see. The spread is definitely big. I would love to see the xtabs to see who is still making up their minds.

…Adding More… The crosstabs are actually online. Click here. 40 percent of white voters, who are pretty much evenly split in this poll between Foxx and Conway, are still undecided. And 32 percent of black voters, who are with Foxx over Conway 59-4, are undecided. About a third of both men and women are undecided, and Foxx leads Conway by 5 points among men and 25 points among women. Just 16 percent of voters 65+ are undecided and Foxx leads Conway by 31 points. 30 percent of voters aged 50-64 are undecided and Foxx leads by 30.

Bernie attacking the Democratic establishment smacks a little of hypocrisy and may or may not be turning voters off. The guy uses the Democratic Party only to run for president. Lots of his supporters despise Democrats. Not good at all to form relationships and build a winning coalition.

Did the pollsters ask about “commutation” or about “pardoning”? It makes a difference.

  3. - Pundent - Thursday, Mar 12, 20 @ 7:12 pm:

While I agree it makes a difference. I suspect the poll results wouldn’t move much.

    God bless Rod Blagojevich

The Cook County SA race is gonna come down, with probably a much smaller(?) overall turnout, those who can “today” and going forward, which of the two can get pluses voted… in this environment.

How many votes either side has in the “bank”, they are ten times more valuable after today.

    To POTUS,

Will it come down to intensity?

Bernie’s voters, will they be more vigilant now to vote then Biden’s base voters who might be less willing to go out to vote?

Dunno. I’ll be interested to see breakdowns.

Strong pro-marijuana polling in this one too. The vast majority is not worried about legal marijuana in their communities.

I heard Blago is now the Grand Marshall of the St Patrick Day parade

classic mistake for those opposing Foxx….to many candidates in the primary. To bad for Donna More too. Maybe a republican state’s attorney again?

  9. - anon - Thursday, Mar 12, 20 @ 11:09 pm:

I suspect there will be some upsets next Tuesday. Coronavirus will impact turnout - how isn’t exactly clear, but clearly there will be an impact.

Would be fun to have a “biggest upset” contest, to see who might predict the biggest primary election surprise.

The crosstabs for the SA race is stark.

Men support Foxx by a narrow 28-23 over Conway while women back Foxx by a wide 43-18. Among African Americans, Foxx is crushing Conway 59-4. I don’t want to say it’s over, but it looks like it’s over.

The fawning over Blago by some in the media is just icky.

  12. - NIU Grad - Friday, Mar 13, 20 @ 8:45 am:

Democrats in tight November races need to pull a page out of the Raunerite playbook and start using Blagojevich in ads (especially Casten/Underwood). The Republicans now own this issue with their unquestioning support of Trump. The ad writes itself…
