Unclear on the concept
Thursday, May 14, 2020 - Posted by Rich Miller * Rep. Skillicorn appears to be saying that the state must be opened in order to force this woman to hold a wedding party against her wishes…
And she called him on it…

It’s all about the businesses and their suffering. If it came it, he would absolutely side with the business in this case in order to protect their bottom line.
Durkin is going to have to work very hard next week to keep Skillicorn away from a microphone during session…He has some catching up to do with Rep. Bailley in the free attention department.

A friend of mine reached out b/c her daughter’s wedding venue is saying that they have to pay whether the wedding can be held or not b/c Covid is not an “act of god”….

NIU Grad-
Please, someone hand Skillicorn the mike unrestrained.
Please.

As I told my uncle the other day, we live in a society with the technological sophistication to create handheld computers which can answer difficult questions in seconds, and yet in many cases our governments are run by morons. Sorry Rep Skillicorn, but your confirmation bias and poor reading skills are showing.

Can the legislature declare that Covid 19 is an act of God? Not sure what all the effects of this would be.
- Oswego Willy - Thursday, May 14, 20 @ 10:53 am:
I’m truly confused;
I get that Leader Durkin has all but given up with member management, I mean, abdicating that you can’t “control” lunacy… I guess what’s confusing to me is Leader Durkin’s acceptance that they are needed to be part of a super minority think?
As far as I can tell, the HRaunerites support a ceding of southern Illinois AND that Mr. Skillicorn’s voice, loony as it is… should be the only voice that the HRaunerites won’t push back.
Sure, maybe they’re lazy, but all I hear is how tirelessly Mr. Demmer works, all while forgetting he goes to cocktail parties too, or how Mr. Wehrli can tweet all kinds of silly… no blowback… hmm… or how asking about how a family is doing is snubbed so by Ms. Bourne, rebuffing empathy.
If Leader Durkin likes staying silent, welp, that says a great deal to me.

Skillicorn is going to be a retired State Rep come January. It’s sad that Durkin will lose that seat but Skilli is who he is and in this Presidential year, he will lose along with Morrison and probably Grant. Hopefully more sane Republicans can rise again after these guys are gone.

Historical first: A “shotgun wedding” where both the groom _and_ the bride are compelled to attend.
- Ano - Thursday, May 14, 20 @ 11:05 am:
Having been invited to a wedding in April that, of course, was delayed to July, with another possibility of August—–everyone can do what they want. However, I won’t be attending and I seriously doubt that most of those 200+ invitees will. Go get married without the extravaganza. I thought that was the point, isn’t it?

Skillicorn gonna Skillicorn…
- Cheryl44 - Thursday, May 14, 20 @ 11:25 am:
I don’t see the problem. A woman said something and Skillacorn read what he wanted to read into it.
- Michael Westen - Thursday, May 14, 20 @ 11:26 am:
Then she shouldn’t get married. There, that was simple.
- zatoichi - Thursday, May 14, 20 @ 11:27 am:
He must be equally good at reading the bills he votes on.

Looks like Skillicorn has a hard time understanding that no means no.
- {Sigh} - Thursday, May 14, 20 @ 11:30 am:
Can’t wait for him to complain about not having enough time to read the budget bill or BIMP. Obviously he didn’t have enough time to read his tweet.

bet if she threatened to publicize the name of this establishment, they’d back off.
- burbanite - Thursday, May 14, 20 @ 1:08 pm:
As a general rule an “act of god” lets people out of contracts without liability b/c the act of god prohibited them from completing it. The Governor actually used that term in referencing Covid more than once. I am pretty sure that there will be litigation over whether or not Covid is an act of god. And if my friend’s daughter does not get out of the contract without penalty she will likely go to the media about it. I understand the companies are losing money, but that shouldn’t be the problem of young couples who are just starting their lives together.

The hardest thing to believe is that it’s now 3pm and he still hasn’t taken it down. He’s not only dumb and wrong, but unwilling to admit it.

Being on brand for Mr. Skillicorn is more important than anything.
Look for the helpers.
Mr. Skillicorn, his brand, is to be all we are seeing now, in a pandemic.
