The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today reported 14,612 new confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 168 additional deaths.

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 621,383 cases, including 11,178 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 113,447 specimens for a total 9,472,674. As of last night, 6,037 in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 1,192 patients were in the ICU and 587 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from November 12 – November 18, 2020 is 12.0%. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity from November 12 – November 18, 2020 is 14.0%.

Well, yesterday’s caution optimism was short lived. My son and daughter-in-law developed symptoms yesterday and got tested. They are awaiting the results.

The real frustrating part is that some of the bars and restaurants in my county received thousands of dollars in state Covid-related grants, yet they’re remaining fully open. Some are even booking bands.

@Southern, if that is the case, these businesses may be jeopardizing the relief funds they received. Generally, when an entity receives funds from the State, they agree to adhere to all applicable laws, that includes EO’s. I believe for for the BIG funds, they explicitly agreed to adhering to COVID mitigation measures. You may be able to contact DCEO about this.

It would be useful to have some demographics on hospitalizations and positive testing.
We have all seen the video of the bridge collapsing as the waves of wind synchronize and amplify.
The 4th of July, School reopening, labor day, and halloween were spaced just far enough apart to sync up.
Halloween is going to sync up with Thanksgiving which will sync up with Christmas almost perfectly.
Alot of people trying to get tested as a precaution, which is great but also probably why that positivity rate is holding at 12 percent.

Effingham is where I call home. This week the school board voted nearly unanimously to proceed with winter sports including basketball. One lone dissenter was chided for using science in stating her concerns. This is why I rarely leave my house.

The potentially positive news in the data is that it looks like the exponential rise in new cases and positivity rate was arrested about a week ago. The 7 day average calculated from today’s date (12,120/day) is statistically similar to that of 11/11 (12,326/day) and the rate has dropped from 13.6% to 12.0% as testing increased.
This is similar to the plateau that Illinois saw in may after an exponential increase in cases. I hope that like what we saw in May this plateau will be followed by a steady decline in cases. Obviously behavior over Thanksgiving can alter this current pattern compared to May.

We got an email from church suspending all in person services immediately (they were using a reservation only system). The email referenced additional mitigations that will be announced tomorrow. Not sure where they got their info, but they put it out there.

The R0 has dropped from around 1.2 in mid-October to around 1.05 yesterday which is great news for many of us.
It does not help the 14K who were reported as having testing positive today or the 6000 in the hospital.
It does not bode well for reopening.
Clearly, mitigations are working in every region.
Clearly, lack of mitigations was not working in every region.
I suggest we keep the mitigations in place statewide atleast through mid-December so that families can travel safely and gather at Christmas.
