* And I hope it’s gonna be a long, hot summer…

The only rules are: 1) Keep it local; and 2) Be polite to each other. Thanks much.

Poor John Cantanzara is not going to have a good day today.

Senator Mike Simmons is everywhere on social media. I think he and his supporters should begin thinking about the possibility of overexposure. I respect the tradition of freshman legislators coming in humbly, listening more than talking, and learning the process from their more experienced colleagues. This is in no way a statement on his character because i don’t know him. But as somebody who doesn’t know him my fear is based on the very real opinion I’m developing of him even though he hasn’t stepped foot in the chamber yet, and hasn’t introduced anything beyond three shell bills. Slow down the social media, Sir.

== Slow down the social media, Sir.==

This is thoughtful and quite excellent advise for a number of politicians and their spokespeople, not just Simmons.

I am happy Madigan pick a youngster to replace him in the House. Gives the guy the opportunity to set a record and beat Madigan’s length of service.

    @ Public Servant:

I haven’t seen the story yet; hoping Rich will give us more info.

But even in my unknowingness, I’m not feeling much sympathy for John Catanzaro. He likely deserves everything that will be heaped on his today, and more.

Great song choice this morning! One of the Stones best underplayed songs.

John Catanzaro has no one but himself to blame.

Great story line for the Illini is Ayo Dosunmu. He has notched the third and fourth triple double in Illini history. Competing for Big Ten and National Player of the Year.

Over the weekend WGN had a very comprehensive story on the ramifications of the IDES unemployment claim fraud involving fake claims placed in the names of thousands of unsuspecting people who are not unemployed. Worth a look. One of the reporters got scammed. I’m glad some detailed publicity is finally getting aired about this terrible situation. Honestly it should scare everybody.

I guess this is a question on a point of order, if I use this thread each day to ask why Representative Chris Miller has not had any real consequence for his participation in the 01/06/2021 insurrection where he labeled Democrats as terrorists and declared war, does it violate rule 1.) and rule 2.)?

It’s been more than a month, and other than some hastily drafted press releases I’m not aware of anything else in the works.

    Rich’s post on the Stones…
Found a stash of ticket stubs. Top of the collection was the Grateful Dead at Soldier Field date 1991.

In Mi over the weekend…they have way less snow here than in Chicago…we’re the snow belt this year…

===ask why Representative Chris Miller has not had any real consequence for his participation in the 01/06/2021 insurrection===

Did he actively enter the Capitol building or was he just at the protest? I ask a genuine question as I do not know.

Excited to see the Martin Luther King Republicans working with the new ILGOP chair Tracy. Voters in Cook County are really tired of the one party system

  17. - thisjustinagain - Monday, Feb 22, 21 @ 12:56 pm:

To Etamar1’s comment: “Voters in Cook County are really tired of the one party system”. Sadly, not really at all; that’s why they keep voting in Democrats for so many offices. The ILGOP is obviously the minority party in Cook County, and has been for decades. What’s worse is the GOP’s continued inability to figure out it offers Democratic or independent voters little to nothing against the Dem’s basic platform.

=== The ILGOP is obviously the minority party in Cook County, and has been for decades. What’s worse is the GOP’s continued inability to figure out it offers Democratic or independent voters little to nothing against the Dem’s basic platform.===

What’s been the problem is… the most GOP votes in Illinois … are found in Cook County… and yet… finding candidates to maximize that has been the problem.

  19. - thisjustinagain - Monday, Feb 22, 21 @ 6:15 pm:

OW, even if the ILGOP can find a candidate with any hope of winning, the GOP message isn’t winning in Cook, and hasn’t for a very long time. It’s so bad that a 2020 candidate for circuit judge ran as a Dem to get on the ballot, even though they lean Republican. Why? Because there ain’t enough R-voters to matter in this Dem-controlled county, and they wanted to win. Source: Jack Leyhane’s “For What It’s Worth” blog, 2020).

    (Sigh)

You’re missing the forest they the trees.

The county with the largest batch of GOP votes in the whole state… can’t find a slate of candidate to build upon.

That’s not like what you say… useless… what’s useless is never trying to be viable.

New York, Los Angeles, other major cities ejected Republicans.

    Candidates matter.

Not long ago, we had 4 statewide offices, now… zero

    Giving up isn’t a plan.
