My one long drive this past year was to check out Shawnee National Forest and 17th Street’s “Magic Dust” (and the homemade pork rinds) were the highlight. It was Providence that motivated me to order an extra shaker to take home before trying it.
Loyola Chicago is going to the big dance and I’m pretty sure U of I is as well. Knock on wood this will be a good year for Illinois College Basketball. Both of them have had some good games so far.
Went canoeing and camping there with friends, it was a blast. Fished at Crab Orchard Lake and those babies wound up on the grill. Looking forward to some spring fishing and outdoor activities when I finish my vaccine.
For you gardeners here, if you haven’t got you seed orders in better do it today. We had to order some items we forgot to when we did our large seed and plant orders in January, and tons of seeds and plants are now either backordered or totally sold out.
One of our garden shops told me they sold out fast last year and due to early orders and people who discovered gardening last year during lockdowns now ordering, they don’t anticipate having much stock left by Mother’s Day.
@JS Mill
My grandfather used to love that lake. I took my son in 2019 (last time I flew in for a visit). I have caught nice Cats and had good Crappie fishing since I was a kid. Some people like it for Bass but it’s always been catfish since I’ve been going there.
Sorry I made a mistake, we went to Little Grassy Lake, not Crab Orchard (got the two mixed up). We rented a boat and caught some nice catfish by a point that a local showed us.
=go to the Giant City Lodge for breakfast, lunch, or dinner=
Back in the day, they had an all-you-can-eat Sunday fried chicken dinner with 7 sides for $5.99. For broke college kids, that was alright. They still do that?
Well have to say getting the initial appointment at the UC was a challenge.
The early morning e-mails (there were two) saying the appointment time had changed were a surprise.
The subsequent e-mail saying the earlier e-mail about an appointment time change was sent in error, not as much of a surprise.
The marketing e-mails I have since gotten from the website I used to make the appointment. Not a surprise at all.
However, would love to hear the logic of using someone to manage the appointments who can then use that data to market to people.

Was able to schedule a vaccination at the UC on St. Paddy’s. I’m Irish, so Luck of the Irish really is true…just sayin.

Assuming the State Fair goes on as scheduled, 17th Street usually has a booth there. Of course, you’ll have to wait until August …

If you’re going to be down here, go to the Giant City Lodge for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. One of the hidden gems of southern Illinois.

@GOM, I would love to hear more about fishing at Crab Orchard. What did you catch? What is generally good there etc.

Lots of Twitter angst from Illini hoops fans about the team not being co-Big Ten Champs.
Really? Go win the NCAA’s and see who cares then.
The Big Ten just saved you from buying some worthless tee-shirt that you won’t want to wear in two years anyway.

Was in Marion about a year and a half ago on a Friday night … and they’d run out of ribs.

Glad to see Illinois and Loyola dancing this year.
If you like baseball and haven’t seen the video of what Yadi Molina did to that poor Astros rookie yesterday, take a look.

Can someone please describe the magic dust flavor profile?
Rich’s comment is already enough for me to add this to my list next time in Springfield, but I am curious.
Also, U o I basketball is for real. They should be a number 1 seed. Great team great season

In return for the heads-up on 17th St. BBQ, I give you Uncle Dougie’s and highly recommend their Wicked Good Chicken Wing Marinade.

Thanks @Ron and @GOM. Been planning a trip down that way for a while and would love to get some fishing in with my son.

You may be able to get 17th St BBQ stuff other places — I know Art Mart in Champaign sells their sauces.
