Question of the day
Friday, Apr 30, 2021 - Posted by Rich Miller
* We talked a bit about this yesterday…
Officials at the Illinois Department of Public Health said the agency is working on a program that would allow residents who are vaccinated against COVID-19 to show an electronic certification from the state.
“Vaccinated individuals may want to be able to prove they have been vaccinated, especially if they misplace their CDC vaccination card,” IDPH spokeswoman Melaney Arnold said. “IDPH is working to provide this service to individuals.”
* The Question: Will you get one of these certifications when it’s made available? Take the poll and then explain your answer in comments, please…

- Amalia - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 2:49 pm:
unless they tell me I need to for some reason/s, I already have an electronic record with my doc. Pic in my phone. Look up the medical system if I need to. I don’t want to create more records unless required.
- phocion - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 2:53 pm:
I would get one because it’s likely many venues might require proof, but it’s doubtful the state will go through with it. I also question the wisdom of pushing this out now. Too much vaccine hesitancy, and stories like this may scare off people from getting jabbed.
- Pundent - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 2:53 pm:
I would have no hesitancy in obtaining this. I travel quite a bit internationally and fully expect that this will be the norm in the near term anyway. Hopefully we can land on something that would serve both international and domestic purposes.
- Donnie Elgin - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 2:54 pm:
Voted yes. I’m no fan of asking permission from the State of Illinois to live my daily life, but they already have the vaccine info in a database. Might as well get the convenience of the certificate.
- Perrid - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 2:55 pm:
Probably. I have no problem with it, but even before the pandemic I didn’t go many places, so I’m not sure I need it. If it’s not too hard to get I probably will
- Sox Fan - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 2:58 pm:
I understand why some won’t with sensitive medical information. But personally, if it makes travel or going out easier for me, I’ll sign up the day it’s available
- Peanut Gallery - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 2:59 pm:
Yes, would be much easier to pull up if I wanted to attend a large concert, etc. and it was required. If that’s the price of normal, I’m paying it. I do not want to be carrying this paper card around and I worry that a photo of it on my phone won’t suffice for everyone.
- Interim Retiree - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 2:59 pm:
Probably - if it makes life easier down the road, sure.
- SAP - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:03 pm:
Voted yes, because I don’t trust the computer tracking chip the vaccine administrators injected into my arm. /s
Real reason is that it will make traveling and attending large events easier.
- wayward - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:03 pm:
Sure, sounds convenient.
- Paying Attention - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:03 pm:
Of course! Proud to have gotten my jabs. They aren’t getting other health info from me but happy to share with the world that I’m doing my part.
- Annonin' - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:03 pm:
Why not.. gotca card from the hospital too
- Oswego Willy - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:06 pm:
Yep. I’ll get one.
It’s like a card to normalcy.
- Cool Papa Bell - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:08 pm:
Might as well - could make my life easier and that of business owner or ticket taker. Seems easy enough to say yes too.
- Bigtwich - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:08 pm:
Places that require proof of vaccination for entry are going to have my attention.
- Derek Smalls - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:12 pm:
Some businesses are going to require it, which I have no problem with, and I’ll be able to get in.
- park - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:13 pm:
Yes, traveling to Europe this summer and some verification with a government imprimatur will come in handy. Also, the program might encourage businesses to require it, encouraging those on the fence to get vaccinated.
- Cheryl44 - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:13 pm:
Yes. The card is an odd size that doesn’t fit in my wallet and some places might not accept a picture of it on my phone.
- The Doc - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:15 pm:
Second what OW and Bigtwich said
- illinifan - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:18 pm:
I would love this. I have my card folded in a protective sleeve so it can fit in my wallet but eventually that will tear if I have to pull it out a lot. I have a picture on my phone and also have emails from AZ confirming my vaccination with lot number for each shot. That said, travel sites may get up and running before the state gets this done.
- Dysfunction Junction - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:21 pm:
Yep. Booked tickets to Asia this morning for Christmas/NewYear’s and I’m sure they’ll be wanting something like this to enter the country. Can’t say I blame them.
- Nick Name - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:21 pm:
Yes, because duh.
- Responsa - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:27 pm:
I’m vaccinated. I have two Walgreen’s receipts that say where, when and what brand of jabs I received. I have a paper CDC card that records that I’m vaccinated. I have a photo of the CDC card in my phone. My doctor has record of my full vaccination in the mychart system. (Just verified that with them this afternoon.) I think that’s enough proof.
- don the legend - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:28 pm:
It’s a moot point since Governor Bailey won’t have one then nobody will have one.
I guess I better say /s.
- Just Curious - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:31 pm:
I’ve been vaccinated due to travel. However, there needs to be proof that the vaccination will prohibit you from contracting or passing the so-called virus on.
- Blue Dog - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:31 pm:
You may not believe this. I voted yes. The reason you never say never is if one of the grandkids needs me to bus them around it may be required. As for personal use. I’m not showing it to anyone. For any reason.
- SSL - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:31 pm:
I don’t see any down side.
- JoanP - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:35 pm:
Yes, I would hope that it would make international travel possible/easier.
- JoanP - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:36 pm:
= there needs to be proof that the vaccination will prohibit you from contracting or passing the so-called virus on. =
“so-called”? Seriously?
And NO vaccine protects you or others 100%. But they sure beat the alternative.
- Grandson of Man - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:39 pm:
Glad to get one, yes. I have zero problem with businesses or any other entities such as schools requiring a vax pass. They have the right to protect themselves, their customers and staff from negligent COVID spreaders. Having a government-issued pass/certification would be right because it’s a way to stop counterfeit vaccination cards.
- Norseman - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:42 pm:
Yes, if I still lived in IL. Unfortunately, I now live in GQPland, where science is rejected and voters neglected.
- Rachel - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:46 pm:
I’d love one. More convenient, provides a backup to my paper card, and may stop vaccine card counterfeits.
- Notorious RBG - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:47 pm:
I’d sign up for this as soon as it is available. Business owners should be able to protect themselves, their employees and their customers. I miss festivals, Sox games, and concerts - providing this can bring all of those back safely and quickly.
- SOIL M - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:51 pm:
No. What medical treatments, if any, that I have are between my Doctor and me. They are not anybody elses business.
If a privately owned business decides they want to require proof of my medical treatments in order to serve me, I wont go in there. While I do not believe they need to know my medical history, they have the right to request it in their business and I have the right to spend money elsewhere.
- DuPage Saint - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:51 pm:
I am not being sarcastic but why not have this information on Real I D?
- Oswego Willy - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:53 pm:
=== What medical treatments, if any, that I have are between my Doctor and me===
It’s a vaccine already administered to over 200 million Americans alone.
I mean… seriously… “treatment”?
- Truth Teller - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:53 pm:
Why? Let’s not promote having to have this to travel. HIPPA would restrict having to give this information anyway.
- Skeptic - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:53 pm:
Bigwig, OW and SSL all explained it as well as I could.
- Rich Miller - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:54 pm:
===why not have this information on Real I D? ===
Why would you want the SoS and the federal government to have that info? Also, there is no Real ID requirement yet. It’s been postponed again. Move along.
- Rich Miller - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:55 pm:
===HIPPA would restrict===
It’s HIPAA.
And you’re also wrong.
Sheesh, go crawl back to Facebook.
- PublicServant - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:59 pm:
Voted Yes, because I’m a patriot. I’m also a member of society. An WE, as a people, depend on each other to help each other. In a pandemic, where a vaccine is available, you take it if you’re truly a patriot.
- wildcat12 - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 3:59 pm:
Of course! Why not? If the fear is that “they” are tracking you…well, “they” already have your vaccine records. I predict venues, airlines, events and more will start requiring proof of vaccination soon, and this will just make that easier.
- thunderspirit - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 4:01 pm:
I would, yep.
And I’d be sure to frequent establishments that required it.
- bogey golfer - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 4:03 pm:
Have plans to go to Scotland later this year. If this makes travel easier, you bet.
- Huh? - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 4:05 pm:
“What medical treatments…”
When you visit South America and other areas known to have yellow fever, you must produce, on demand and with your passport, the WHO “yellow card” as evidence of receiving the yellow fever vaccine. The covid vax pass will be no different.
To the post - yes. Ditto what others have so eloquently said.
- Enviro - Friday, Apr 30, 21 @ 4:17 pm:
Will this certificate include information about a booster shot for Covid-19?
