Valencia goes after Giannoulias on ethics

* Press release…
Cheryl Bruce, campaign manager for Secretary of State candidate Anna Valencia, released the following statement today after Alexi Giannoulias released a video claiming he’ll clean up Illinois politics and saying that “Illinoisians are sick and tired of the corruption & scandals that have become all too common in our state”:
“Alexi Giannoulias was senior loan officer for a bank that loaned money to convicted mobsters, he engaged in reckless lending practices that led authorities to seize his family bank, and he lost millions of dollars in college savings for thousands of Illinois families. Now he thinks he’s qualified to clean up Illinois politics? Illinoisans already rejected Alexi when he lost Barack Obama’s Senate seat to an opponent plagued by scandal. Now, Alexi on the ballot risks losing Jesse White’s Secretary of State office, too. We’ve already seen what happens when Alexi’s in charge – it’s not reform; it’s a disaster for middle class Illinois families.”

Oof! He walked right into that one. If Valencia doesn’t win the primary, there will be many more months of this leading up the the election, with the Madigan prosecution as a backdrop.

Alexi wants you to remember that he was a banker and Illinois Treasurer, but would rather you forget about all the scandals and incompetence.
Can’t have it both ways.

Funny I was talking about Bright Start with someone at work today and I mentioned about the bond losses and the impact that had on what we saved and Alexi’s folks being asleep at the switch on that.

What a blunder by Alexi & team. Alexi has scandal/corruption in his background, so why draw attention to it? And Jesse White’s tenure as Secretary of State was scandal-free, so it’s not even a top issue in that particular race. Glad Valencia’s team had a strong response.

So Alexi is saying Jesse White’s Secretary of State is filled with corruption?
- 47th Ward - Friday, Mar 4, 22 @ 3:28 pm:
Wow, that Giannoulias video is something. Total lack of self-awareness on display, and as a bonus, amateurish videography. All I noticed was the distracting light and phantom shadows. Maybe film with better lighting, and away from windows?
Here’s a free tip for Team Alexi: Madigan hated him. That’s your message today. Lectures on cleaning up corruption from a dilettante are not going to work. Point out that MJM never supported you, for anything, and leave it at that.

==So Alexi is saying Jesse White’s Secretary of State is filled with corruption?==
Kind of echoes of Rod July 2003, in justifying his budget sledgehammer to the SOS budget (as well as the other constitutionals). Claiming that Fawell was still on Jesse’s payroll.

You can trace the no sense of irony and plea to pass the message along directly back to the Occupy Democrats playbook.

Mic drop by Team Valencia and unforced error by Team Alexi

I may be dense, but what is or what does he mean by “Corruption Tax”?
- Ron Burgundy - Friday, Mar 4, 22 @ 4:04 pm:
Way to go Alexi. Next run one on how you are going to take on corrupt bankers. /s

Good message. Terrrrrrrrrrrrrrrible messenger. Talk about leading with your chin.
