    A terrific day here in beautiful DuPage County. Could use some rain but otherwise this is the kind of weather we dream about in January.

    A double header split for the White Sox was OK, but it would have been more fun to watch Cease and Bieber in the same game.

  2. - Amalia - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 8:58 am:

    well the second Sox game was fun…..

  3. - Socially DIstant Watcher - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 9:00 am:

    Does Todd have a plan for reducing mass shootings? Still waiting…

    ==Does Todd have a plan?==

    LOLLLOLOL

  5. - Amalia - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 9:17 am:

    lololol does Todd have a plan. yes. he’s a John Lott type, “More Guns, Less Crime.”

  6. - low level - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 9:21 am:

    Todd’s plan, such that it is, is for everyone to be given a FOID card at birth. Then the guvment will subsidize the purchase of your first gun. Once you turn 18 you can get a semi auto and carry that around so you feel safe.

    If you still think you need more protection, you can get a tank to drive to work. Lord knows those mean streets of Downers Grove to the city are frightening and it is absolutely your God given right to do everything possible to defend yourself. That is Todd’s “plan”

    I’m downstate. Who’s Todd?

    ==I’m downstate. Who’s Todd?==
    I believe they are referring to a commenter by the nickname Todd. From my experience, he is rabidly pro-gun and will shoot down anyone who thinks otherwise (figuratively, of course. I hope.)

  9. - Vote Quimby - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 9:36 am:

    I should have put this on Monday’s open thread… but I went to both nights of AbeFest in downtown Springfield. I suspect there may not be another version, based on the number of people in attendance for John Waite and Filter outdoors.

    ==I’m downstate. Who’s Todd?==

    A commenter going by the nickname Todd who is … ummm… pro Second Amendment.

  11. - Lurker - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 9:37 am:

    Meanest most inane open thread ever? Personal attacks needed?

    (Although, fire LaRussa, is still acceptable)

  12. - 47th Ward - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 9:44 am:

    Lurker, Todd was up earlier today posting about “Capfax Karens” on a thread from yesterday, so he’s been dishing it out. I’m sure he can take it.

  13. - Ducky LaMoore - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 9:54 am:

    “(Although, fire LaRussa, is still acceptable)”

    I think I will just post “fire LaRussa” for every open thread.

    ==A double header split for the White Sox was OK,==

    At least that doubleheader went much better for the Sox than, say, another one 43 years ago yesterday…

  15. - Just Sayin - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 10:04 am:

    Shia mentioned this tragic anniversary in her column this morning, but 18 years ago today was the day of the Roanoke F4 tornado. With the Parsons plant destroyed:

    == I’m downstate. Who’s Todd? ==

    If you will excuse the expression, a hired gun. He was (and may still be, I haven’t kept track) a lobbyist for various fun groups.

    For those who missed it, here is ANOTHER intentional walk by TLR for a batter behind in the count.

  18. - Blue Dog - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 10:13 am:

    I personally find Todd’s comments insightful.

  19. - 47th Ward - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 10:13 am:

    ===a lobbyist for various fun groups.===

    Lol. I guess that depends on your definition of fun.

  20. - Amalia - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 10:15 am:

    “CapFax Karens?” lol. Todd of many past hats, lobbyist for the Illinois State Rifle Association , motorcycle industry (no helmet, oh the horror) and union local 150. but mostly he likes to get deep in the weeds of gun parts and try and distract you from remembering that regulating guns -instruments of death to humans- is deeply necessary.

  21. - Constitutional Watcher - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 10:17 am:

    === I’m downstate. Who’s Todd? ===

    Todd is a former gun lobbyist…retired. People get upset about his antics at times and he gets a bad rap because of it. Probably deserved. But don’t take his knowledge of the law and 2A issues lightly.

  22. - Just Sayin - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 10:19 am:

    Even the Orioles are embarrassing the Cubs, as they did 4-2 last night.

  23. - Amalia - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 10:26 am:

    if Todd knows so much about guns, why does he say he hunts deer with an AR-15? that kind of weapon took the leg off one of the dead in Highland Park, so I’m imagining that it does not leave much deer meat or a decent wall trophy. my hunter grandfather would not approve.

  24. - ChicagoVinny - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 10:27 am:

    Watching Yermin Mercedes go ham on Dallas Keuchel was fun last night.

  25. - G'Kar - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 10:28 am:

    I posted this last night and it might have been missed by many, so I’m posting it again.

    More proof that Chicago is basically a H E Double L hole. Only US city to make the list.

  26. - 47th Ward - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 10:33 am:

    ===why does he say he hunts deer with an AR-15?===

    Per DNR, you can’t use an AR-15 to hunt in Illinois.

  27. - Amalia - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 11:01 am:

    @47th ward. I know. and yet, he posted that on this blog.

  28. - Amalia - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 11:08 am:

    https://capitolfax.com/wp-mobile.php?p=36747 in a news story from a few years ago. so I’m wrong, he did not post, it’s in a post, but it is from a news story.

  29. - Lurker - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 11:08 am:

    Wow G’Kar, I did not see that. Really cool (banned punctuation)

    As for everyone setting me straight on Todd, I will go back to only worrying about LP’s feelings.

  30. - Demoralized - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 11:26 am:

    Somebody needs to stop using my name please.

  31. - Amalia - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 11:29 am:

    How do you solve a problem like LaRussa?

  32. - NoMoreMC - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 11:32 am:

    Not sure if they popped up here before, but anyone else see the Illinois Tourism ads with Jane Lynch or hear the podcast ones with Andy Richter? I like the tag line “Illinois: The Middle of Everything”. Are there any other ones out there? Glad they got some Illinois natives to do the spots.

  33. - Bad Habits - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 11:59 am:

    Attacking Todd for having a different opinion than the vocal majority. Very classy and adult. Someone the other day went as far as blaming Todd as much as the shooter. Thats the attitude that will solve problems.
    I think we have a bigger people problem than a gun problem. Try not to be so eager to give up your rights. You may regret it. And before anyone asks, I do not have a solution that would stop the mass shootings.

  34. - thisjustinagain - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 1:02 pm:

    Why is Tony still manager at this point? Is the front office even aware of what’s going on with the team?

    Ad hominem attacks on pro-2nd Amendment posters does nothing to support your arguments. Try much harder after reading the Heller, McDonald, and NYSRPA rulings, and remember the police have no duty to protect you; see Castle Rock v. Gonzales.

  35. - Amalia - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 2:09 pm:

    when someone is a known lobbyist, they put info and their side out there. and those views are eligible for criticism. it’s the views, not the person.
