    Not-so-lovable Losers.

Who are their City Hall lobbyists again?

  2. - thunderspirit - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 10:31 am:

Sigh, how very Ricketts of them.

They strive to make it very difficult to remain a fan of my favorite childhood baseball team.

  3. - Sports Stooge - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 10:31 am:

How did these renovations get approved if such a major discrepancy was that glaringly obvious?

  4. - Just Sayin - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 10:33 am:

Maybe the feds’ lawsuit will force the Cubs out of business? One can only hope.

  5. - Jibba - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 10:35 am:

Wheelchair ramps and elevators will help the Cubs players get on and off the field better.

  6. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 10:38 am:

===feds’ lawsuit will force the Cubs out of business===

Or maybe force a business to comply with ADA and make the experience of baseball accessible for all, which should include people with disabilities.

All-Star game is coming up, Wilson Contreras will be playing, no better time than to trade Willy and get some AA arm(s)

The club is not going anywhere (in the playoffs, to the playoffs) anytime soon.

  7. - Excitable Boy - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 10:41 am:

The Ricketts family are just genuinely disgusting people.

  8. - DEE - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 10:42 am:

I do not believe rights for Americans with Disabilities are enumerated in the original US Constitution therefore the Supreme Court will uphold a dismissal of this case. /s

  9. - Someone you Should Know - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 10:44 am:

Rich, we think it’s shameful, that you would go to such a place today, we think you should skip it in protest :) /s

  10. - Tood Aloo - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 10:47 am:

    Ricketts love money.

  11. - Annonin' - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 10:47 am:

Certainly the Ricketts will assert the radicals in the Biden DOJ are suing because Trump will be the next president and end ADA

BTW Mr/Ms DEE we don’t bullets are enumerated so maybe they should go to

  12. - Three Dimensional Checkers - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 10:56 am:

Failing to make the premium seats ADA accessible seems particularly egregious. What, the high class finance bros can’t watch a game with someone in a wheelchair? The Sox seem much better in this regard

    https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/ballpark/disability-access-guide

  13. - Pizza Man - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 10:56 am:

And ADA was signed into law in 1990 by President George Bush senior??? Have the Cubs been hibernating all this time during Don Zimmer’s good ol days?

CUBS: “We sure love our fans!” Right.

  14. - Just Sayin - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 10:58 am:

==I do not believe rights for Americans with Disabilities are enumerated in the original US Constitution==

Maybe the ADA can be upgraded into another Constitutional Amendment?

  15. - TheInvisibleMan - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 11:03 am:

Last Cubs game I went to was game 5 of the WS in 2016. Was also at the clinching game against LA that year with 3rd row seats. It was an amazing time for a few days on the North Side.

Haven’t given the rickets family a single cent since. And now that the Cubs have won a WS in my lifetime, I have no real need to follow the team anymore. I can’t even remember the last time I watched a game from home. Probably a few in 2017, and that was it.

They killed the golden goose, and then stomped on the corpse.

  16. - Sangamo Girl - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 11:15 am:

The Illinois Attorney General can also sue them under the Illinois Environmental Barriers Act. If they violated ADA they also violated the Illinois Accessibility Code, which is even more stringent than the ADA. https://ag.state.il.us/rights/disabilityrights.html

  17. - Michelle Flaherty - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 11:16 am:

If they can drag it out the Supreme Court will probably get rid of the ADA, too.

    (I hope this is snark.)

  18. - Vote Quimby - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 11:19 am:

==They strive to make it very difficult to remain a fan of my favorite childhood baseball team.==

My sentiments exactly. When they bid for Chelsea after crying poor… I haven’t been the same fan since.

  19. - Just Sayin - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 11:20 am:

==Failing to make the premium seats ADA accessible seems particularly egregious. What, the high class finance bros can’t watch a game with someone in a wheelchair? The Sox seem much better in this regard==

It also helped that New Comiskey opened less than a year after the ADA was signed (July 26, 1990).

  20. - Kippax Blue - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 11:21 am:

Chelsea supporters were brilliant protesting the Ricketts bid for their club. Horrible people, Ricketts.

  21. - Keyrock - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 11:21 am:

I haven’t given the owners a penny since they hooked up with Sinclair. Here’s another reason not to go.

Back in the 60’s, I used to go with a friend and his dad. The dad was in a wheelchair. Ushers would carry him to his box seat. It’s shameful the renovation didn’t do a better job, and the Justice Department had to sue.

  22. - Phineas - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 11:23 am:

If true, I’m surprised an architect put their name on the drawings.

  23. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 11:25 am:

=== It also helped that New Comiskey opened less than a year after the ADA was signed (July 26, 1990).===

    Huh.

    Say, - - Just Sayin -

Have the White Sox and the state of Illinois renovated any part of the New Comiskey since 1990?

    Thanks.

  24. - Amalia - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 11:28 am:

Just when you think you can’t hate the TRicketts operation any more…….

  25. - JoanP - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 11:29 am:

= It also helped that New Comiskey opened less than a year after the ADA was signed (July 26, 1990). =

Which makes the situation at Wrigley even worse. If the Sox had less than a year to figure it out, and got it right, what excuse do the Cubs have after 32 years?

  26. - So_Ill - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 11:35 am:

    Sell the team

  27. - Kippax Blue - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 11:36 am:

Oh dear—Just saw @Michelle Flaherty’s post… We had better pray this is snark.

  28. - Google Is Your Friend - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 11:37 am:

    - Three Dimensional Checkers - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 10:56 am:

You’re putting a lot of stock into what is basically a template thing for most team websites.

    https://www.mlb.com/cubs/ballpark/accessibility

  29. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 11:38 am:

===If the Sox had less than a year to figure it out, and got it right===

We’re talking about renovations with the Cubs.

Did the Sox and the state of Illinois renovate their building since 1990?

    That’s not a tough question.

    It’s worse with renovations.

  30. - Roadrager - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 11:39 am:

When the premium renovations went live on a game day, multiple people immediately pointed out that the single-file catwalk around the “Catalina Club” (which also helpfully pushed a lot of normal season ticket holders out of their 400-level seats) was completely inaccessible to those with disabilities.

Also, get ready for the national commentariat to start flogging “Biden uses DOJ in attempt to punish good-hearted Trump supporters,” despite the facts that Lausch is a Trump appointee and the investigation into this started in 2019.

For me, it’s shameful that it’s taken this long to address it, and simultaneously surprising that something is being done about it.

  31. - ChicagoVinny - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 11:41 am:

I can always count on the Ricketts and the Cubs to make the White Sox’ many problems not look so bad.

  32. - Henry Francis - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 11:44 am:

So now I understand why I saw Crane Kenney hammering away on a plywood ramp to one of Ricketts’ rooftops.

Kinda hard to be a more despicable owner than the Tribune Company, but these Ricketts are trying.

  33. - Roadrager - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 11:46 am:

I think I just posted a comment in this story that I meant for another. Sorry about that.

  34. - Socially DIstant Watcher - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 11:48 am:

In other news from the G, there’s more details on SafeSpeed and Sandoval.

  35. - The Magnificent Purple Walnut - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 11:49 am:

Is there a record of City or State inspections for these renovations? Should that have been part of such an inspection?

  36. - PublicServant - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 1:29 pm:

=== The Ricketts family are just genuinely disgusting people.===

    They do give Grif competition.

  37. - BoSox - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 1:36 pm:

Imagine a major renovation like this and not having plans approved or required inspections in Chicago. https://webapps1.chicago.gov/buildingrecords/doSearch

  38. - BoSox - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 1:39 pm:

    Link didn’t go…try this and put in 1060 W. Addison. https://webapps1.chicago.gov/buildingrecords/

  39. - TNR - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 1:52 pm:

Couldn’t help but notice that when I was lucky enough to sit in the Scout Seats at a Sox game (a recently renovated feature of the park) there was wheel chair accessibility — in the front row.

  40. - JP Altgeld - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 3:27 pm:

    ===and put in 1060 W. Addison===

    (Burton Mercer)

Thanks for that. Your posts often perplex me but that one had me really scratching my head. LOL
