Rain. 1″ in my rain gauge (all day yesterday/last night) when I went out this morning.

  2. - very old soil - Friday, Sep 22, 23 @ 8:08 am:

Getting my covid booster and RSV vaccine at CVS this morning.

  3. - Stuck in Celliniland - Friday, Sep 22, 23 @ 8:28 am:

I’ll also be getting the new COVID booster Monday at one of the local Walgreens. Apparently Sangamon County public health isn’t offering the boosters at their facility, at least not yet.

Too young for RSV vaccine but I haven’t checked whether immunocompromised people like me can get it at my age.

  4. - Stuck in Celliniland - Friday, Sep 22, 23 @ 8:29 am:

Looks like Rich will become one of the biggest Rockies fans in Illinois this weekend.

=Getting my covid booster and RSV vaccine at CVS this morning.=

    Don’t forget your Ivermectin. /S

  6. - Just Me 2 - Friday, Sep 22, 23 @ 9:11 am:

Today is the last day of summer. Always goes by too fast.

Every time it is autumn in an even-numbered year I feel so lazy because I’m not constantly walking through strange neighborhoods, walking on doors, and eating day-old pizza and donuts.

  7. - DEE - Friday, Sep 22, 23 @ 9:12 am:

=Getting my covid booster and RSV vaccine at CVS this morning.=

I had my covid booster and RSV set for this past Monday and my PCP told me vaccines were more effective when taken at least 2 weeks apart. So I only received the booster Monday

Annoyed by Durbin piping up with a gripe about the Senate dress code change.

Here’s hoping he does the right thing and calls for Bob Menendez to resign… today… but I am not holding my breath since Senate Dems refused to address Menendez as a problem the last time he was under indictment.

  9. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Sep 22, 23 @ 9:17 am:

    ===Durbin … Senate dress code===

Was wondering if Rich was going to have something on it.

I’ll hold off, but I do have a thought or three on this.

  10. - Blitz - Friday, Sep 22, 23 @ 9:47 am:

On good side I just started reading a really good book that is essentially Chicago-land history. It’s called Rising Up From Indian Country by Ann Keating. On the bad side I saw my first stink bug outside a window and so I have to keep my doors closed for a couple of weeks just when the weather is getting to when I like it the most.

Speaking of which, anyone have any good suggestions for keeping them away? I heard someone say if you rub your window screens with dryer sheets it would help but don’t know if that really is true or not.

  11. - Grandson of Man - Friday, Sep 22, 23 @ 9:58 am:

The Cubs are collapsing. Wait til next year. /s

  12. - Steve - Friday, Sep 22, 23 @ 10:04 am:

-for Bob Menendez to resign… today-

No doubt the Senator is an embarrassment . But, he won his last corruption trial. So, if he resigned before he was found not guilty then the legal system looks unjust. We don’t live in a perfect world. So, if he’s convicted , he’s convicted. Yes, he’s an embarrassment. But, you should check out the rest of the Senate. That’s who the voters voted for.

  13. - JS Mill - Friday, Sep 22, 23 @ 10:05 am:

=The Cubs are collapsing. Wait til next year. /s=

I can’t even…my Sox are sooooo bad this year I cannot bring myself to do even a little cub hating. There is a first time for everything I guess.

  14. - yinn - Friday, Sep 22, 23 @ 10:45 am:

I’ve been looking at my city’s current annual Total Compensation Report. Here’s a tiny excerpt from it that I’m calling “A Tale of Three Pension Funds” and it goes like this:

City manager: salary $157,594, IMRF contribution $14,009.
Police chief: salary $157,594, police pension contribution $104,485.
Fire chief: salary $157,594, fire pension contribution $152,236.

    Just Me 2,

Surprised the neighbors don’t complain about you walking on their doors. Also that’s got to be a great exercise to work off those stale donuts.

  16. - Former ILSIP - Friday, Sep 22, 23 @ 11:16 am:

    @Blitz

I’ve heard of sprinkling cayenne pepper powder along the windowsill/exterior doorway to keep them away. It works for other bugs too.

  17. - Teacher Lady - Friday, Sep 22, 23 @ 11:19 am:

Lots of cops, including one with a dog, outside Illinois State Library on Second Street.
    Anyone know what’s going on?

  18. - JoanP - Friday, Sep 22, 23 @ 11:33 am:

    @ Teacher Lady,

I don’t know,, but if I were a betting woman, I’d put my money on a bomb threat.

  19. - Blitz - Friday, Sep 22, 23 @ 12:06 pm:

    @ ILSIP

Thank you, worth giving a try for sure.

  20. - thisjustinagain - Friday, Sep 22, 23 @ 1:17 pm:

Uproar in Chicago suburb of Dolton over people being issued tickets and threatened with doubled fines if they didn’t come to court.

  21. - HTR - Friday, Sep 22, 23 @ 2:29 pm:

Came up in casual conversation today…has any evidence ever been shown that the WRA/Amendment 1 increased anyone’s property taxes?
