Quick observation from Wednesday:
Whoever coordinated the Illinois State Foodball team’s visit to the Capitol with Go Red For Women day is a genious.

Rich is right. June is officially “Black Music Month” but Illinois has so much to celebrate we have to do it twice:
Miles Davis
Louis Armstrong
Jelly Roll Morton
Anthony Braxton
Lionel Hampton
Von Freeman
The Staple Singers
Muddy Waters
Buddy Guy
Howlin Wolf
Pinetop Smith
Willie Dixon
Bo Diddley
Earl Hooker
Elmore James
Sonny Boy Williamson
Junior Wells
Little Walter
Jimmy Dawkins
Sam Cooke
Curtis Mayfield
Lou Rawls
Earth, Wind and Fire
Rufus & Chaka Khan
Frankie Knuckles
Farley “Jackmaster” Funk
Common
Chance
Chief Keef
Lil Durk
Lupe Fiasco
Vic Mensa
Rhymefest
And that is just a partial list.
I know I am forgetting a lot because the list of influential Blues artists with ties to Chicago is probably longer than the list of those who do not have ties to Chicago.
Maybe Sherman Dilla Thomas can swing by and help me out?
Anyway, the list is so incredible that I want to suggest that maybe we can come together to create a living museum somewhere in the vicinity of the DuSable Museum and the Obama Presidential Library and Museum that celebrates Black musicians and particularly the contributions of illinois to everything from Jazz 100 years ago to Drill today.
Music is part of our story of Innovation. A museum will help drive economic development and cement Illinois’ place.
