As I look out my office window and see at least 100 people (if not much more) around the Capitol supporting or opposing something, the City of Springfield and/or Sangamon County are missing out on a huge revenue opportunity.
I move that legislation needs to be written requiring any large group of “unpaid lobbyists” who are rallying at the Capitol to spend at least $1 of their money in preferably Springfield, or it could be extended to include the rest of Sangamon County. Since many of those lobbyists would not know which parts of Springfield are incorporated and what are not. Spend at least $1 per person in the City or County. This would do wonders for the city, county, and even State economic development locally.

Somehow the Facebook algorithm has decided to show me a bunch of posts from an Illinois State parents group and it is like Lord of the Flies in there as the parents fight over the ISU custodian and cafeteria worker strike.
Some parent will post about how upset they are about what their child is going through with the poor food or mess that isn’t getting cleaned up. Someone else will attack that parent of being a helicopter parent whose kid isn’t sufficiently resilient to take care of themselves. People are fighting about whether to boycott a local donut shop and whether a donut delivery crossed a picket line. Then last night there were posts about someone claiming bad shrimp cooked by scab workers in the Watterson dining hall gave a bunch of students food poisoning. There are also reports the scab workers are getting paid higher wages as temps than what the union workers were asking for in raises.
I don’t know what is true but I hope all this turmoil is worth it to the ISU prez because it seems like an awful mess to me
