Good morning!
Saturday, May 30, 2026 - Posted by Rich Miller * I really need to find me a musical beach retreat this summer. Any suggestions?… What are we here for, people? Oh, man, that was good. * This is an Illinois end of session open thread.

No sand involved but Green Town On The Rocks in Waukegan is highly recommended. Great little outdoor bar with live music most weekend nights and a rotating selection of food trucks. It’s at the harbor right along the Lake and easy to get to, just a block or two away from the Metra.

Insane that HFS and safety net malfeasance didn’t get discussed more. I guess we will react when the Department of Justice gets involved.

How much money could be added to the state budget if we zero out legislators’ pensions? I know, it’s unconstitutional. Let’s just let it play out in the courts.

Is that you, Pat Quinn?

Not this summer and not on a beach, unless you stretch the diffintion and say near water. We have done the Big Easy Cruise twice
https://bigeasycruise.com/
The music was excellent and organization was out standing. Next Jan. we are switching it up and trying
https://sandybeachescruises.com/ there is the Beach tie in and it will be summer in the southern hemisphere.
Before Covid hit we purchased tickets for a John Prine festival on a beach resort in the DR but Covid and then his passing killed it. You may want to check for festivals in the Caribbean.

I think it is a reference to the fact that the general assembly is passing unconstitutional revenue enhancements with the idea that it wont be implemented until the Courts hash it out. Which means that these taxes will be a net negative in state spending until this issue is litigated.

I don’t think they believe they’re unconstitutional. I do think they are confident the state will be sued by billionaires, so might as well get ‘em on the books now.
