In my life of more than 50 years the ban has never been effective. Now you can buy fireworks at popup stands all over the place so what is the point? It would also take business away from Indiana. Fun benefit.
Gosh yes. Remove the ban, regulate and tax. People are getting them anyway. Just please no social equity initiatives that fail miserably and drag on for years and years like they did with pot. Do it right or don’t bother.
There’s a reason why we have these laws in place and it wasn’t because prior elected leaders hated fun and weren’t patriotic.
Letting anyone purchase and store explosive and incendiary devices is not great public policy and let’s not pretend like we’ll only have responsible use when we don’t have that now.
As much as it doesn’t discourage my neighbors from setting off fireworks every night for the entire week surrounding holidays, I certainly don’t want more people doing it.
Fireworks are still bad, and like the other two, if we tax them, they’ll still be bad. I doubt there will ever be a Fireworks Anonymous, but as Keyrock says above, keeping them illegal will reduce the number of injuries.
I’m called the Curmudgeon because I think it’s kind of dumb to exchange your money for loud, annoying noises.
Similar to gambling restrictions, it may be time to acknowledge that firework restrictions do not effectively act as a deterrent. Might as well take the added revenue (I’ll admit I have no idea how much additional revenue is actually at issue)
No. In addition to the injury concerns noted above, grew up in several “water poor” states where fires are a real concern. With climate change, droughts are more likely, increasing fire risk.
Some of y’all are acting like the public policy problem is people using fireworks when they’re not supposed to and not the damage caused by forest fires and structure fires. Never mind the additional injuries to folks who misuse them or their victims.
I voted no. I don’t think the ban is particularly effective, but eliminating it might signal to some that fireworks are safe. I know my reasoning is probably a bit lame on this.
Chapin Rose needs the fireworks sale ban so he can continue to be outraged about it.
- Louis G Atsaves - Wednesday, Jul 1, 26 @ 2:20 pm:
Voted yes. I have spent holidays involving fireworks (like the 4th) in other states over the years. It’s basically legal everywhere else in other states. The difference between folks shooting fireworks from their backyards in other states and folks shooting fireworks near my backyard in this state is absolutely zero. So what have we banned here? Nothing.
I voted no, but i would like to see police departments enforcing the ban. Instead many just post “dont call us for fireworks” type messages on social media.
I voted no as I find the amount of illegal activity going on all summer long in our area to be bad enough as it is. I’d love to see greater enforcement of the illegality
No.not that police enforce it…I know of one neighborhood with a fireworks display put on and most of the people running it are cops….but fire on my roof scares me. also ever talk to er personnel about the 4th of july? it’s not just a season of The Pitt. er personnel HATE the holiday because there’s lots of idiotic behavior with fireworks. keep the ban.
2) I can drive 30-40 minutes to Cape Girardeau or Charleston Missouri and buy whatever I want. So, in effect, there is no ban down here.

Haha, this is exactly something Illinois would do. Then lawmakers would spend a month touting it in the media. It would take the Department three years to finalize rules and run the RFP. 60% of the eventual winners would essentialy be fronts for national fireworks conglomerates. “Krazy Kaplan’s Equitable Labor Fireworks for All” would dominate the market, which would cost 30% more than Indiana.

I voted no. My aunt received serious leg injuries from kids throwing fireworks.
The ban certainly doesn’t eliminate fireworks, but keeping fireworks illegal does reduce the number of injuries.

- Jack in Chatham - Wednesday, Jul 1, 26 @ 1:50 pm:
No, keep the ban. The neighbors illegal fireworks scare my dogs and wake up the neighbors children. It is a noise nuisance.
- btowntruth from forgottonia - Wednesday, Jul 1, 26 @ 1:55 pm:
No.
Big Dipper beat me to it.

Never cared for the ban until I moved to redneck land. We have to put up with fireworks for weeks. Of course, they’re not worried about others sleep.
- DuPage Saint - Wednesday, Jul 1, 26 @ 2:08 pm:
I voted no. And I would vote a big yes to enforcing the law
Yes I am a grumpy old man but I did not like them when I was a kid
