Independent Collin Corbett Calls Out Pritzker’s Willful Ignorance and Double Standard in State Police Shooting
PALATINE, IL — Yesterday morning, JB Pritzker claimed he did not know the details and had not watched the video footage surrounding the fatal Illinois State Police shooting of Rachel Tarrence.
This shooting occurred over six months ago, on January 4th. The bodycam footage had been public for nearly two weeks. News outlets had reported on the case extensively. Yet, the Governor of Illinois claimed he didn’t know about it and refused to take a position.
Independent candidate for Governor Collin Corbett strongly condemned Pritzker’s willful ignorance and double standard.
“An unarmed mother of three, with her four-year-old in the backseat, was fatally shot by Illinois law enforcement six months ago, and our governor still hasn’t cared enough to look into the case.
“Contrast that with the Renee Good shooting. Pritzker immediately went on national TV to condemn ICE and laid flowers at her memorial.
“Our governor shouldn’t care more about Minnesota residents than Illinois residents, simply because one shooting aligns with his political narrative and the other has the potential to hurt his national ambitions.”
On July 16th, the St Clair County State’s Attorney sent a letter to the Illinois State Police declining to press charges against the officer.
Unlike the governor, Collin is making his position clear. “This woman was not a model citizen and had likely committed multiple crimes. But she should still be alive. She should have been arrested, put through our justice system, and held fully accountable for her crimes.
“I will not vilify our law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line to keep us safe. I am a strong supporter of our police. But if the St Clair County State’s Attorney is right and this shooting was lawful, then our lawmakers need to review the state’s laws governing the use of deadly force to make sure law enforcement can protect themselves in dangerous situations while also protecting the lives of people who encounter police in highly stressful situations.”

“I encourage you all to go watch the video for yourselves,” Pritzker said of the Good shooting at the time. “I’ve watched an analysis of it frame by frame. It is harrowing. It is unimaginable to think that this can happen in our country.”
From the governor’s office…
ISP’s Division of Internal Investigations completed a criminal investigation in February 2026 that was referred to the State’s Attorney. Upon conclusion of the criminal case, the ISP is conducting an internal investigation to assess any possible policy or rules of conduct violations.
* Bailey’s turn…
* Back to Pritzker…
In a radio interview, Darren Bailey claimed he’s ready to work across party lines to “get real work done for Illinois.” It would be his first time doing so. His record during his time in the Illinois House and Senate reveals a legislator who regularly put partisan loyalty ahead of progress for working families – voting against bills that funded our schools, raised the minimum wage, protected families, and lowered costs.
Here’s the record:
• Bailey voted against every balanced budget that came across his desk.
• Bailey voted against raising the minimum wage, which gave 1.4 million Illinoisans a raise.
• Bailey voted against capping the cost of insulin.
• Bailey repeatedly voted against funding for police and firefighters and for fighting crime.
• Bailey voted against funding for state police and violence prevention.
• Bailey voted against raising teacher pay.
While Governor JB Pritzker is committed to making lives easier, putting money back in people’s pockets, and keeping families safe, Darren Bailey is committed to demonstrating his loyalty to the MAGA agenda, even at the expense of Illinois families.

This situation doesn’t reflect well on Pritzker, especially in comparison to the ICE shootings. It doesn’t seem to be getting a lot of media attention outside of CapFax so maybe it will go away.
This isn’t some sheriff’s deputy. This is the State Police and Pritzker’s responsible for that agency.
