We have been on Route 66. We have not taken the entire, or even the entire route through Illinois. So, but I will say one of the great things to do for people who have not been able to drive Route 66 or have any of the experiences along the way is there is a mini version of it right here at the State Fair, and I do commend to everybody that it’s a fun thing to do. Aside from we’ve, we you know the theme this year is all about Route 66. You can actually go see what’s along Route 66 when you go to the exhibits that are right here at the Illinois State Fair.
He kept saying “rout 66″ until the final sentence, when he called it “root 66″ like it’s supposed to be pronounced.

Here’s a decent link to the old Route 66 map which includes the Mother Road from the 20’s, which did not follow what is today I-55 south of Springfield, but instead ran east through Chatham, Auburn, Thayer, Girard, Carlinville, Benld and Gillespie.
Benld is one of the most fascinating towns in the region, tied to Capone and his bootlegging operation, The Coliseum openly served alcohol during Prohibition, and was a major music venue from the 20’s to the 1970’s, a must-stop for bands trekking from Chicago to St. Louis.
The 2008 story about Sir Paul stopping for gas in Springfield while making a Route 66 pilgrimage in a classic Bronco can’t be forgotten here.

Illinois does a horrible job of preserving route 66. MO has a rest stop that looks like a 1950’s service station. OK,TX and AZ all preserved the road as a frontage road and you see classic vintage cars on it. The only weed infested patch I could find is in front of ISP Springfield post. It is laughable that JB has never travelled the entire route in Illinois.

So Bailey is holding a press conference on the storms in Northern Illinois that just happened in order to tell the state they need to move quickly. I believe the state is moving quickly. Seems like a crappy way to attempt to score political points by using people who have suffered storm damage as a political prop. You’re not the Governor Mr. Bailey. Maybe stay out of the way.
Does JB have a “frunch room” in the house? Enquiring minds want to know.

My parents were from Kansas and I was raised to use “rout”, but based on the famous song, also understood that “root” was acceptable. I know people living in Illinois who use either pronunciation. So I don’t think one is strongly more Illinois than the other….
B-N got wrecked pretty bad from yesterday’s storms even though it wasn’t a tornado. Power outages, downed trees, messed up stoplights, and flash flooding all over the place. Not the best welcome back to campus for ISU students.
