*** UPDATED x1 *** After-hours news: Rauner to skip Trump event, new anti-Harold TV ad
Friday, Oct 26, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller * From the governor’s daily schedule…
As Tina rightly points out, President Trump’s southern Illinois event begins at 4:30 tomorrow afternoon…
*** UPDATE *** OK, well, maybe he will be?…
* Meanwhile, a dark money group associated with Local 150 of the Operating Engineers is running this ad opposing Republican AG candidate Erika Harold on “Chicagoland broadcast and cable markets [in] the last eight days of the election cycle.” The ad was sent to me via someone’s mobile phone so the quality isn’t great… This was described as a “healthy six figure buy,” but so far the only independent expenditure has been for $150K.

Question of the day
Friday, Oct 26, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller * Um. Wut?…
* And…
If it’s not Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Commissioner and former state Rep. Dunkin, he has a doppelganger. * Dunkin’s Facebook photo… He’s 52, so he’s not exactly young. I reached out to former Rep. Dunkin last night and haven’t yet heard back. * The Question: Caption?…

Musical interlude: “No one told you when to run. You missed the starting gun”
Friday, Oct 26, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller * Buried down deep in this Tribune profile of US Rep. Randy Hultgren’s tough race against Democrat Lauren Underwood is this little nugget…
Republicans I know have been fuming about this million dollar stash all month. He’s got the money to spend, but he’s not even up on broadcast TV. If he’s saving it for a rainy day, I have news for him: Hurricane Lauren is bearing down on your district, bub. And she’s at least a Category 3. * Meanwhile…
I think she understands it fine. * Tribune…
* And AARP is hopping mad about that bill Hultgren voted for and has been reminding its members of what Hultgren and others tried to do…
Maybe the congressman should’ve read the bill and tried to understand it before he voted for it? * On to the tune… Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day * Related…

RSLC runs cable ad against Manar
Friday, Oct 26, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller * The Republicans have spent basically nothing on Seth McMillan’s campaign against Sen. Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill). Manar even pulled his ads off of St. Louis broadcast television. And cable isn’t the best way to quickly hammer in a message unless it’s a really big buy, so I have my doubts, but maybe they’re seeing something in the president’s numbers in that area, or maybe they’re just trolling Manar…
* The ad… * Script…
…Adding… Such a class act, that one…
