* Judy Baar Topinka’s estate sale began yesterday and will run through Saturday afternoon

Anyone who knew the late Judy Baar Topinka knows that she was an inveterate estate sale and garage sale freak. When you heard stories about Topinka’s habit of haunting such sales through the years, you may have wondered just what she picked up and brought home.

Well, wonder no longer. Beginning today (actually it began at 10 a.m. on Thursday) there’s an estate sale at the former Illinois comptroller’s Riverside home at 380 Herrick Road. The announcement we found online describes it as “massive.”

    How perfect.

But I would snatch up those random VHS tapes. I wonder if they are old “tracker” footage? That would be classic.

    Seriously?

Rich, be sure to avoid the circle interchange when you drive up. Take the tollway instead.

After looking at Google maps, I’d say she sure didn’t live in a fancy house.

Anyone in the Riverside area want to make a report on the JBT swag they pick up?

  8. - A guy - Friday, Jun 12, 15 @ 3:54 pm:

I have a cool ashtray from her that was taken out of service when she left us. There’s a rumor she had hundreds more…she started that rumor. It’s cool that people can pick up something that will make them think about her often.

It seems to me that she would love this event.

Somewhere right now Judy is looking at that announcement and thinking, “that looks a good one I better stop by”.

  10. - Politix - Friday, Jun 12, 15 @ 4:33 pm:

I picked up a pretty round crystal bud vase for $5.

Still left are a LOT of clothes, shoes and hats, VHSA tapes, an eclectic wall art collection, and tchotchkes galore - lions, scotties and pigs. Some purses and hats. Vintage kitchen items. Not all that much really.

Did the sale include accordions or polka albums?
