Bost announces reelection with Trump’s ‘complete and total endorsement’

Friday, May 9, 2025 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Press release…

U.S. Representative Mike Bost (IL-12) launched his campaign for re-election at Thursday evening’s Monroe County GOP Century Club Dinner with the full endorsement of President Donald Trump. Bost, a two-time Illinois co-chair of Trump’s campaign, has earned Trump’s endorsement in five consecutive election cycles.

“President Trump is saving our nation for the second time, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have his endorsement as we work together to advance the America First agenda,” said Bost. “In a short time, we’ve made historic strides in protecting American workers, ending the border crisis, and advancing our conservative values, but our work is far from over. This Marine isn’t finished fighting for the incredible people of Southern Illinois.”

In a Truth Social post announcing his endorsement of Bost Thursday evening, Trump said, “Congressman Mike Bost is a Tremendous Champion for Illinois’ 12th Congressional District! A U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, and Chairman of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, Mike is fighting tirelessly to Strengthen our Military, Care for our Veterans, Stop Crime, Stand with our Brave Law Enforcement, Secure our Border, Cut Taxes, Promote Energy DOMINANCE, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment. He has been with us from the very beginning, helping us, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. Mike Bost has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Re-Election – HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!”

Bost was first elected to Congress in 2014 and has long been a key Trump ally on issues ranging from border security and public safety to protecting American manufacturing, the Second Amendment and pro-life values. Prior to his election to Congress, Bost served as a state legislator, small business owner, professional firefighter, and a United States Marine.

Bost was also endorsed by Trump when he defeated Darren Bailey by three points in the 2024 Republican primary.

Thoughts?

    Tragic to see a boot-licking former marine embrace a man trashing the constitution, firing our veterans and destroying the economy. But hey, what’s the alternative, a real job that contributes to his community?

    If I remember correctly, the Trump endorsement last time came after the primary campaign was in full swing and there was some groveling involved for that? Please let me know if my memory is foggy.

    Trump clearly has other targets in mind for the primaries this time around, and this is a strong early message to Bailey to stay away. The House GOP is also doing stronger coordination with the incumbent president than when he was running his shadow operation down in Mar-a-Lago.

    === Thoughts? ===

    I am reminded of an article where Speaker Madigan was asked about various contested legislative districts, and as they made their way around the state, the reporter eventually got to the Democratic opponent to legendary House Republican Leader Bill Black. Madigan’s response in essence was:

    “I believe Bill Black will be re-elected. He is a hard-working and effective lawmaker who does a good job of representing his constituents.”

    Like him or not, agree with him or not, the same must be said of Bost.

    I remember many Democrats being outraged by Bost’s Paper Volcano on the House floor, and the news of Bost shooting an unleashed dog from his porch.

    Bost represents a district where quite a few folks consider that kind of behavior not shameful, but heroic.

    That said, I believe SIU-C is the largest employer in Bost’s district, followed by K-12 schools, and I hope that Bost will leverage his relationship with Trump to advocate for public education dollars.

    The dog shooting lobby has to be tickled pink these days.

  5. - Donnie Elgin - Friday, May 9, 25 @ 1:10 pm:

    Makes complete sense - Hard to run against a sitting president from your own party, particularly when Trump won the District overwhelmingly -
    2024 President Trump 71% - 28%

    Darren Bailey. Poor fellow just posted last week that he was in the “greatest place on earth” at Mara-Largo. Guess his whisper campaign about Mike being a RINO isn’t getting the traction he had hoped for. Poor Darrin Bailey. Poor Poor Darren Bailey.

  7. - Give Us Barabbas - Friday, May 9, 25 @ 1:50 pm:

    Maybe districts get the representation they deserve. The damage Trump is doing is hurting Bost’s own base as collateral damage. If they figure that out, he’s toast. If they know it but agree to stay with the mass hallucination they consented to, then he’ll keep getting reelected and blaming the usual scapegoats all the time they all go down with the ship. Long term, they are aging-out and new demographics will eventually take over. It unfortunately takes a lot of time and damage in the meanwhile.

  8. - JSI - Friday, May 9, 25 @ 2:08 pm:

    It’s been a bad week for Darren Bailey. He wasn’t elected Pope. And now, Trump has endorsed Bost. Please, no one tell him there is a US Senate election next year.

    He didn’t mean church?

    =Makes complete sense=

    History tells us that coveting the support of strong men with dictatorial tendencies never works out well. At some point you’ll have to disavow and atone for your decision. Obviously this isn’t the time. But I’m keeping receipts.

    Bailey correctly named the house of his lord (if not savior)

    - and the news of Bost shooting an unleashed dog from his porch. -

    It was actually a penned up dog that previously attacked his daughter resulting in 19 or 24 stitches on her face depending on the source. I don’t actually fault him for that other than there were probably better, safer ways to put the dog down.

    =It was actually a penned up dog that previously attacked his daughter resulting in 19 or 24 stitches =

    He had his day in court and …

    “At a jury trial, Bost was found not guilty.”
